Provera to start Period?

Hi,

I am scheduled for a TAH on September 17, 2008 due to Three Years of suffering from Irregular Bleeding - frequent periods (2 periods in same month or 1 week apart), Spotting between periods, Absent periods (6 months), Infrequent Periods (period, no period, no period, period period, no period), Heavy Bleeding, Light Bleeding, cramps, pain in ovaries, abdominal pain, lower back pain).

My period was late this month, and I have been having severe Cramps & Lower Back Pain, but NO PERIOD. So, my OB/GYN prescribed 10mg of Provera (1 tablet for 10 days) to make me START my Period. Apparently the Period is supposed to start AFTER I finish taking the Provera.

How long does it take for Period to start after finishing the medicine?

Thanks for your help!
Linda

Provera to start Period?

Hi Linda Well, everyone is different. What does your DR think you should expect?

I was on depo Provera (same med, different delivery) for three years a while before my hyst; when I stopped taking it, it was almost a year before my period returned. I have heard other women say theirs returned within a month or two. Yours may not be as delayed because you haven't been on it very long - but there is no set answer to this one.

-Linda

Provera to start Period?

Hi Linda,

I took provera to start periods on and off for about 25 years. I would take it for 10 days, then start my period on the 14th day. The only time it didn't work was the month following a d & c, but I was told to expect that.

I agree that your Dr will know best what you should expect. If it doesn't start, call him and let him know.

s,
kay

Well, speaking just for myself, it didn't work! I waited and waited...no period.

It is supposed to work in 5-10 after you finish taking it. It is different each cycle
