Re: no bowel prep?

(((Ladies)))

HysterSisters.com does not advocate anyone do a bowel prep of any kind if one has not been ordered to do so by the surgeon in charge of your surgery. Doing so can endanger your health and life as your surgeon will have you prepped and proceed according to the instructions s/he has given you.

HysterSisters.com also does not advocate anyone not do a bowel prep that has been ordered by your doctor. Again, you could endanger your health or life as your surgeon will proceed expecting you, the patient, to have completed the ordered prep.

Each woman should follow her doctor's orders to a "T" when it comes to the bowel prep. If there are issues or concerns, discuss them with your own, personal surgeon.

Not following your surgeon's orders regarding the bowel prep can result in your surgery being canceled because of the risks created by not following your own surgeon's instructions.

Re: no bowel prep?

I'm going to be having a dVH/BSO with cystocele repair in early November (don't have the date yet but that's the timeline) and my surgeon told me a bowel prep was optional. I probably won't do the "power clean" some have to do, but I can see how an empty bowel might be helpful afterwards.

Re: no bowel prep?

I was also told that I did not have to do the bowel prep but it was optional. My pain post op is from gas. I did feel constipated. I have taken stool softeners and gas ex. May be doing the bowel prep would have helped me. But ask your doc if its OK.

Re: no bowel prep?

I had a ovarian mass removal (which turned into a TLH) where I did have a bowel prep. The surgeon said given the size of my uterus/fibroids it would give them more room to work. The back-up surgeon who was called in said he was very this had been done (my fibroids were external to the uterus and entangled with lots of structures. Had to be scraped out.
