Vitamin E Cream on Incision - Question

I had always heard that vitamin E cream helps with scarring. I saw on this site that many people were using it not only for the scar repair, but also to soften up the tissues so that the incision did not feel so tight. So I decided after my 6-week post-op to start using the cream. Up until that point my incision was healing nicely and there was no tenderness. I used the cream for two days applying it twice each day. When I got home from work yesterday and into my comfy clothes, I discovered that my incision looked very pink again and had become tender.

The purpose of the posting is just to forewarn others that maybe even at 6 weeks when the doctor has cleared you, it may still be too soon. I also was hoping to hear from others who have had their incisions reopen to get an idea how many weeks out this happened to them and am I safe because I am beyond that 6 week point?

Thanks for any and all feedback!
Becky

Vitamin E Cream on Incision - Question

Hi Becky,

I'm sorry your incision is pink and tender after using Vit E cream. Many women use Vitamin E cream or other types of scar creams on their incisions, but it's always best to check with your doctor before so you'll know what he/she recommends and if you're at a safe point to do so. If it doesn't get better, please call your doctor. Let us know how you're doing.

I use Vitamin E oil (not cream) and don't have any problems.
