Ahh! Really stressing out before surgery!
Hello, everyone!
I'm new here. I'm scheduled to have a total abdominal hysterectomy on 1/16/02(several fibroids, largest measuring 3.6 cm; cyst on ovary); and I am so nervous. In the process of doing my pre-ops! Am running into lots of problems! Insurance dropped former PCP and we are forced to use new one they have provided to us - since I am so close to having surgery - not have time to pick new dr. anyway- good dr. very thorough - found out from lab results - hemoglobin very loww - dont' wnt to give clearance for surgery now - if so - recommend to surgeon specialist that blood transfusion be given! WHAT!? More stress!!
PCP also discovered I have heart murmur (something I've been diagnosed with before) but PCP not comfortable with results - first EKG not bad, however - waiting for results of second test; -then will need to see cardiologist for clearance - All results are expected in two days before surgery!More and more stress! Going to see surgeon specialist tomorrow! Hope I don't have to postpone it! Has anyone had these type of experiences so close to surgery?!
I've read some of the posts - and you all seem like a wonderful group of folks! I'm glad I found this site!!

You poor thing. Just plain ole surgery was enough to have my head spinning. I don't know what I would have done if I had so much additional stress to contend with!
I hope things straighten out for you fast, so you can clear your mind and get yourself set for surgery and recovery. A great place to do some reading if you haven't yet, is on our home page... the pull down menus. They are loaded with helpful information to help you get yourself, your home and your family ready for surgery and recovery...very good stuff.
Keep reading and posting, and please let us know what you find out! We're all here to help, 24/7, so please feel free to ask any and all questions!!
s to you!

Time to take a deep breath
I am sorry to hear of all the stresses you are going thru.
Take time to take a deep breath and evaluate where you are. And what you are looking at.
You may want to ask what else you could be doing. With a low blood count your energy must be limited, I know mine was. Ended up seeing a doctor who dealt with the low hemoglobin with Procrit injections and IV iron. In less than 10 days my count improved more than 50%. I had injections of Lupron to decrease the size of the fibroids and reduce the ammount of blood loss. It really made a difference.
I did have problems but chose to delay the surgery, Problems started in Aug., surgery wasn't till 12/18. I examined everything and was in good health (physically and emotionally) when it was all said and done. For me it was important to delay and be certian of outcome. I know not everyone has the ability or patience to do that.
My thoughts are with you
