Re: Anyone used magnesium Citrate?

I had mine in the fridge 2 days before so it would be cold. Drank on the day before and was on clear lliquid diet. I chugged mine so it wasn't as horrible. Good luck!

Re: Anyone used magnesium Citrate?

Best of luck to all of you getting ready to do this. For me, the fear was worse than the actual event.

I went on a liquid diet the day before the clear liquid diet. I also took Colace at bedtime for 3 days before surgery. This helped sort of clear out the mess before I had to perform the bowel prep.

I was afraid the liquid would come back up because it tasted so bad, so I took the cold bottle and set it in a bowl of ice. I drank it from a straw so the bottle could stay in the ice and the straw to the back of my throat so I could bypass most of the taste buds. I took a good sip of prep, then took a drink of water as a chaser, waited about 5 minutes then repeated.

Since I started a liquid diet and took the Colace a day before, I didn't suffer any violent expulsions. It was liquid coming out, but I wasn't stuck in the bathroom. I went to the bathroom 4 times over 8 hours. Really wasn't bad.

The best for me was to use the straw to the back of the throat, have it really cold, use water chasers.

Good luck ladies!!

Re: Anyone used magnesium Citrate?

Thank you, thinktime, for the hints. I am pretty freaked out about having to do the bowel prep! Doesn't sound like I'll be able to function too much that day before if I am trapped in the bathroom...

Re: Anyone used magnesium Citrate?

I was on a regular diet and drank it cold... was okay at first but dont stop drinking once you start because it took me alot to get the second half of the bottle down! I was worried it wasnt going to work since it took 4 or 5 hours to "kick in". It works! Good luck!

My doctor told me as long as I could drink it it did not matter what flavor I drank. He just needed me cleaned out. LOL

Re: Anyone used magnesium Citrate?

Ugh! I had the first attempt at the hysterectomy on Oct 29, breathing problems so the surgery was stopped. My only thought when I woke up in recovery was "I have to do the bowel prep AGAIN!" What I had to take was 4 liters of "GoLytely." Tasted terrible. They gave me anti-nausea pills, they helped keep it down.
The first time was easier, I had been eating lightly the days before. The second time took waaaaay longer because I celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary the day before and had a big meal. Lots of partially digested food coming out.

The good part is, you forget how bad it was the further along in your recovery.
