Burning Mouth
In doing a search on Burning Mouth one post said it's part of the menopausal symptoms. What would cause this. Estrogen too low/how, progesterone low/high? I'm confused. I've been using Vivelle .0375 only & it seems to work OK, no hot flashes, I do get a little spacy, and I do have to change it every 3 days. So I'm at a lost. I had this early after my surgery 2 yrs ago.

Burning Mouth
I looked into this one and found several references to the same list of symptoms, but nowhere did they specify where the list came from... in fact in one post they even talked about not knowing where it came from!
Are you experiencing a burning sensation in your mouth? And, are you taking any other meds besides your HRT?
Maybe someone will come along who has more experience with this... it's not a symptom I've had (yet).

Burning Mouth
I am one of the very few, maybe only two others on the bb that have experienced this. Funny, both of my sisters also experienced this with meno. I was first experiencing it in the latter part of menopause, then worse after surgery. The other ladies i talked to on this bb, agreed that it was our estrogen being on the low side or flucuating downwards. It seemed worse with dry eyes. Perhaps it is caused by lack of saliva, from dryness. Immeadiately after surgery even my nose and sinusis burned. Don't know, but it is definitely another vine in the jungle, and it sure is uncomfortable. I was excited to see it on the list of meno symptoms that Orgina posted.. Validated at last.
.375 is a very low patch, on the Vivelle site they post that they do not guarantee levels of estrogen in the blood stream on that dose. (you can click on the hormone info. site at the top of board and it has vivelle listed, and i think it is on first page). Do you have other symptoms of low estrogen. I'll bet your riding well under 50 on that level of patch. hmmm, i don't know if your feeling good otherwise, maybe it would be better to chew gum. I know mine did not go away until i got my levels up some. (I also had other symptoms of low low estrogen with it). Then when i switched delivery systems it came back and took awhile for it to go away again. It will still rear its ugly head once in awhile if i flucuate to low: Good Luck to you in your decision making process. And it is definitely a vine in the jungle experience by just a few of us----we must be extra special
Oh, one other thing. Each time i have tweaked my levels, from the change and flucuations it comes & goes with dose changes before it gets better. Thank goodness it doesn't seem to happen very much anymore. And if it does, just briefly. Take care...

Burning Mouth
For the most part I'm doing OK on the .0375. I do get irritable and moody when the patch is wearing off and every day I wake up tired. I sleep pretty good at least 8 hrs a night but don't know why I'm so tired in the morning. I feel like I'm in slow motion and sometimes feel like I could just sit and nod off. I'm way past menopause at age 52 which started around age 49. I take Paxil so don't know if that has anything to do with being tired. The journey has been so long and tiring.
I've tried so many estrogens and never seem to feel quite right on any of them. My DD had me on Estratest one time and I felt the best. The only problem was that it gave me way too much energy almost like I had drank millions cups of coffee all day. And, then we tried Estratest HS and I was in slow motion again.
So I guess this journey continues.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to get your levels tested. From your symptoms, you sound like you may be running a little low on estrogen. Lots of times docs. have samples of patches in their offices they will let you try. Of course, you know the drill you have to stay on any level for awhile to see what happens. That is one of the hardest things about hrt to me, it can take so long to get a picture of what is going on. Perhaps try a .05 patch, and see how you feel. Then there are .75's and .1's Maybe that will help you some. But you can feel like your getting to much when you first go up, but that usually goes away within a couple weeks. Unless you are really getting to much On the .375, you may just need a little increase in the patch--which could also help with that tiredness. If you haven't tried it may be worth a shot. Good Luck, and hope your mouth gets better/it is just really frustrating. I am guessing you may have dry hair or skin, maybe vaginal dryness or dry eyes. Those have been good indicators for me..
This is one journey i could have lived without

JKay that sounds like a good idea. I'll call my DD tomorrow. Have you ever heard of overlapping patches. I'm suppose to change my patch tonight but instead I was thinking of just adding on. Oh my I'm listening to myself type and thinking how confusing that would be. Just the thought of the oldest, then the newest what a mess that would be. Maybe I should just call her.
I do have dry skin, no get up and go, no desire for sex. Vaginal area is OK cause I use Estrace cream. I guess that's a plus. Now that I think about it, I get mild palpitations also off and on. Does sound like the low end of estrogen to me also.
I'm like you I could have thought of other Journey's that would've been much more fun This has been the pits for sure!

burning tongue
I have a different thought on the burning tongue issue. I had this problem for several years and was treated in a variety of ways for it. I was finally diagnosed with a TMJ problem. I had to see an orthapaedic maxiofacial Dr. for a few years to get the help I needed. I no longer have a burning tongue problem. I'm wondering if you perhaps could have a TMJ problem that manifested itself after having your mouth open for that lengthy time with the tube in your throat during surgery. I don't know if this will help but it is a suggestion.

I had a burning tounge for years
This is very interesting, I thought I was the only person in the world that had this problem. Its like all of my taste buds were inflamed, It even went to the roof of my mouth at times. It was scarry to me because I thought of all of the deseases that I could have, I looked it up in some health book at the time and all I could find is something called Harry Lupis, and told my boyfriend (now husband) what I found, He still teases me about my Harry Lupis, although I never did get hair on my tounge. lol lol lol
The DR. finally gave me some medication one time she said that it was a yeast infection in my mouth, It got a little better but came right back. After my histerectomy it seemed like all of my taste buds were comming off, discusting. When I got home from the Castle I thought of gargling with salt water, and it went away, Is still there way back on the very back of my tounge, Maybe ill try gargleing again, I dont know if that is what fixed it now or if it is the estrace, very interesting. hmmm also my tounge seemed white, was your tounge white also with inflamed taste buds? oh well its maybe or maybe not what you all have???
Im on Paxil and xanax when needed and estrace. but estrace is definately not the problem.
If anyone can make any since on this one let me know.

Burning Mouth
Star, sounds just like me. I recently had a partial root canal done and I have a shunt that drains a brain cyst and have to take antibotics. Well after the procedure the Dentist gave me major antibotics for 10 days. I never thought about this until the other night. I called the Dentist and he gave me Mycelex Trouche to take- 5 a day for 14 days. I hope this helps cause it may be some kind of yeast infection from the antibotics. I have no vaginal symptoms though but I guess my good germs all got destroyed.
What is the salt & water formula u used. I might even try this. My taste buds are shot also.

ad3336,
how did you get a brain cyst, sounds painfull, sorry to hear about that, I also just got a partial root canal done but I had so much infection that they put me on altogether with gyno's anti's i was on it 4 different times, It messed up my hormone theropy so finally I quit them and told them to pull the darnd thing, so now im sitting here with a dry socket, yesterday I think it hurt worse then my histerectomy. lol. if it is not 1 thing its another.
Ill have to look up Mycelex trouche, Im not sure what it is. But it is worth a try, the stuff the DR. gave me before was a sample and she gave me like 9 of these things to suck on and I think if she would have gave me more it may have taken it away altogether, but after that she made me mad so I am going to a different DR. now.
Any ways I just got a little warm water and put alot of salt in it so it tasted awfull and gargled with it a few times, if that is what helped, if its not the hrt that did it then it may help you. probally couldnt hurt. I know it helps for sore throats too, my kids have been doing it, I got the idea from my ds. oh well good luck let me know if it works.
Is the Mycelex working?????
