Painful Thrush

I had a LAVH and a bladder repair 6 days ago. I have developed sores in my mouth and throat which my doctor says is Thrush, and was caused by the prescribed antibiotics for my bladder repair. He has prescribed a throat lozeng, but I can only have one every eight hours. I have heard of an over the counter mouthwash. Does any one know about this? I am having trouble eating and swallowing.

Painful Thrush

I had the same problem after my surgery and my doc prescribed something called nystatin oral suspension. It is a thick mouthwash that you swish in your mouth for 30 sec and then swallow it. I had to do this for a week. It doesn't taste the best but got rid of it and I had to do this 4 times a day. YUK! Ask your doc about it.

Painful Thrush

Yes I got Thrush after my TAH/BSO also. The doctor prescribed the Nystatin mouth rinse, which I used 3-4 times a day for a week to 10 days and that completely cleared it up!! They say this is quite common after surgery and the antibiotics they used. Call you doctor about the Nystatin rinse, it really helped!

good luck!! Joanne

You can also introduce ACIDOPHYLOUS into your system through food (yogurt, cheese, milk) or capsules from the health food store.
Whenever I have to take antibiotics, I ALWAYS supplement. I haven't had a yeast or thrush infection since I started doing that. I was on SERIOUS antibiotics for a month after my surgery.
