2+ weeks post hysterectomy: GI symptoms
I have never had any GI problems before surgery, but I have noticed that after I eat a meal, my whole abdominal area feels swollen and I feel crampy in my pelvic area.
What does the surgery do to your GI tract? I have found that eating healthy frequent small meals helps some. I don't know what is causing this to happen, and it's mainly at night.

Re: GI symptoms
Hello there
Have you started to journal the foods you are eating to see if there is any one particular thing or sets of items that could be contributing to the GI disturbance...?
Also, it could be Tummy Care/ Swelly Belly also.
I hope you feel better soon!

2+ weeks post hysterectomy: GI symptoms
Okay, I have the swellibelicus!
I thought it would be gone by now since its been 17 days!!
It is a real thing and is uncomfortable when it flares.
A hysterectomy is a challenging surgery I have found since I am so usually active.
I think since its been over a couple of weeks from surgery, it would have been better by now, but it's a slow process to recover!! I did not realize it would take so long.

Re: GI symptoms
Your uterus is in the same neighbourhood as your lower intestines, so these get discombobulated during surgery and take a while to recover. As you've found, frequent healthy snacks or small meals may work better than regular-sized meals for a while. Also be sure to get plenty of fluids.
Swelly belly is the last recovery effect to depart, often taking a few/several months to do completely. I had all my restrictions lifted at six weeks and felt that in generally, my body was performing normally at eight weeks. However, I still had some swelly belly in the evenings for another month after that.
It's important to realize that recovery comes in stages. At 17 days, I was walking up and down steep hills and doing immensely better than I had the first few days after surgery. But I was far from fully recovered.

Things tend to be different post op..The intestines have been handled, theyve moved into new real estate, hormones, pain meds, less active.. Walking & stay well hydrated. I agree w the other sister, eat smaller more frequent meals & snacks. Avoid processed & limit starchy carbs like rice, pasta & bread.
Fruit- Apples, prunes, prune juice, grape juice, salads, magnesium, pumpkin seeds, nuts. A smoothie w 1 c spinach, 1/2 banana, 1 c blueberries (Frozen) 2 Tbls flax seeds, 1/2 yogurt, 1/2 soy milk optional or other liquid..Walking & Stay well hydrated is important.
If your ovaries are sluggish or removed, theres Soy if you can take it. Reduced estrogen has an effect on digestion. Soy milk, soy beans, edemame, miso, tofu.. Omega fatty acids help other menopause symptoms avocado, olive oil, salmon, flax oil, etc..
Yogurt, kefir & or probiotics are good for the GI system.Step stool to go & lean to knees or knees pulled to chest..
It took me until week 5 for GI pains to subside. I stayed on stool softeners till then. Itherwise olive oil, etc as fats lubricate the GI track..

Re: 2+ weeks post hysterectomy: GI symptoms
Uh, no, dear Sister ! At 3 months I still occasionally get swelly belly . I too live a fairly active lifestyle.
We live in an age of instant solutions and quick fixes. This surgery, with all its internal incisions and stitches, is far from that and requires peace, patience ... and lots of water for the digestive system! Even when we are released by the doctor at 6-8 weeks, full healing takes 3-4 months, maybe 6 or more depending on what was done during surgery and any setbacks. 17 days I was still achy-breaky and getting swelly belly easily.

I am so sorry for your pain. I would recommend 3 things. 1. Get all of your medical records both from your obgyn office from your surgery as well as the outpatient or hospital you had your surgery done at. Look at everything from those two records, something may have actually cut through your intestines on accident. 2. If you haven't had your post op visit call your obgyn ASAP talk to the Dr that did the surgery on you their nurse explain what is going on and get in there ASAP. 3. Make an appointment with a GI Dr now. If something or someone did something to your intestines or bowel they're the most important Dr to correct this. I will also add to have a cbc with differential done you could possibly not to scare you but you could have some kind of infection inside where you had it done. Was this a total hystorectomy or partial one? Praying for you! Please make sure that you get all your medical records from both the obgyn's report as well as the hospital/ pathologist report. Those are very important! Make an appointment with the obgyn ASAP and make sure that you make an appointment with a GI specialist as well! Best of luck to you! Keep us up to date!

I love the kefir drinks! Those are wonderful for GI issues! Plus they taste so good! They are located in my Kroger stores wellness/organic section. If you're unsure about your store ask a worker there. I will add the probiotic yogurt is very good! They meaning not just the plain activia makes another one that has fiber in it as well. I personally just like the plain activia the fiber one is too grainy for me. Eat a lot of fresh greens. I personally love organic Roman lettuce hearts with organic spinach mixed together add some flex seeds to it with some raspberries cranberries and or apples for a healthy snack or make it as a small meal as a nice salad!

What I have discovered to really help out with this evening discomfort is to wear support panties. Some people call them panty girdles, but nowhere as tight as a girdle. Just some abdominal support since I think my overhanging belly may have been pulling downward on what is trying to heal up.
I am going to see if this is the trick b/c I feel normal today, so far anyways!
