can I do abdominal exercises?

Had my uterus and cervix removed vaginally on April 27th...I'm wondering how long I should wait before I start any abdominal exercises...or any for that matter! I have been walking but am anxious to do more but don't want to have any relapses! My surgery went very well....haven't had any pain at all but not really liking the small discharge. Will that go away?

Re: can I do abdominal exercises?

Hi! I'm glad you're doing so well! I would ask your Dr. Have you been released from all restrictions? I had a really easy recovery as well, but didn't start ab excerises till week nine. Dr just told me to go real slow. I was walking three miles at week three and using the eliptical at week four, but again had Dr permission and eased into it. The discharge will go away. I had some after I got home the first week and then again around week four.

Re: can I do abdominal exercises?

thank you! I don't see the Dr until June 7 and I have been trying to take it easy but it's hard. I have been walking every day...patience is so hard!

Re: can I do abdominal exercises?

my DR gave me permission to ease into things starting at week 4. Of course, by week 6 I had overdone things!

Talk to your doctor and take it slow. I am finding that I add an activity and then wait 2 days. Sometimes I need that long to be sure my body is ok with what I am doing. So take it slow!!

Patience is very hard especially as you start to feel better. You could make the walking more challenging. Maybe try to increase your distance or the amount of time you spend walking.

Good luck!!

Re: can I do abdominal exercises?

Mine said ease into low impact at 6 weeks, but no core until 12 weeks. It has to heal before you start straining it. There are some very scary hernia stories on this website.

Re: can I do abdominal exercises?

Thank you for all the advice....I think I will hold off and just keep on walking. My daughter has been helping me garden. Feels good just to be outside and getting something done. But I can sure tell if I need to put my feet up....not pain but just that funny feeling in the abdomen. I'm sure that will get better with time.
