Anyone had an ablation?

I had an endometrial ablation 2 weeks ago that went well, but now I'm having a burning sensation "down there". No itching, no discharge so don't think it's yeast infection. My Dr put me on Penicillin "just in case" it was an infection trying to start. Been on Penicillin 5 days and NO better. Did Urine test and not UTI. Anyone have any thoughts??? It's driving me nuts! Thanks!!!!!

Re: Anyone had an ablation?

I don't know about uterine ablation, but I've had 2 esophageal ablations and they feel quite "burney" for a few weeks.

Re: Anyone had an ablation?

I had one last June and I was achy for a few days, and I went back after 4-5 days certain I had a UTI, because it hurt...but I didn't. I didn't have any vaginal burning - just painful urination.

FWIW my ablation didn't work at all. I got my period 2 weeks later, right on time, full force. The next period was 12 days (usually I'm about 5) and really bad, break through bleeding in between and then a lovely 9 day period the following month.

I know they say that an ablation doesn't make the bleeding worse, but that's not been my experience. I didn't even have one month where it was slightly lighter. I'm still glad I did it - because I wanted to know I tried the less invasive method first before the hysterectomy.

Now I won't have any doubts.

Re: Anyone had an ablation?

I had the same experience with the heavier bleeding. I actually ended up getting a hysterectomy. Wish I could have just skipped the ablation all together. Worst experience of my life.

Re: Anyone had an ablation?

I had an ablation May of 2011. BIG mistake. I never got any kind of relief, if anything it made things worse. Now here I am little over 2 years later and have periods that require a super tampon plus a super pad to be changed every hour and that last at least 2 weeks. I am actually looking forward to my hysterectomy in a few weeks.

Re: Anyone had an ablation?

I had the ablation done in 2007 age of 32 and unfortunately it did not work for me. I really did not have too many after effects, a little of a burning sensation in the general area. I continued to have heavy bleeding and ended up having a hysterectomy in Dec 2008 (keeping ovaries). My twin sister had the ablation and it worked for her. Her periods stopped altogether. However she began having other issues with cysts and had a hysterectomy a couple of years ago.

Re: Anyone had an ablation?

I had mine in 2007 and it was one of my best decisions. I was miserable before. Afterwards, I reduced my cycle a great deal. I will warn you, however, that I have spotted mid cycle each month since....AND....me being use to this has helped me ignore the warning signs of cervical cancer. Doctors continued to say spotting was normal. My advice, ablation best decision....keep up and constant on the pap smears.

Re: Anyone had an ablation?

I had an ablation in May 2011. Aside from cramps for a couple of days, and burning when I urinated for a day, the recovery was easy. My doctor told me that after the ablation I wouldn't get my period anymore or it would be very light. Not the case with me. Although not nearly as heavy as it was prior (it was pretty bad), I still have a heavy period. The worst part is I still get severe cramps for four plus days every month. Kept hoping it would get better each month. I now have a VH scheduled in Dec. On one hand I wish I had just gone for the VH in the first place. On the other hand at least I tried a more conservative procedure first. I also had a fibroid removed six mths prior to the ablation. I just want the whole thing over and done with and can't wait for the day I no longer have to deal with monthly periods (which always seem to come when I have plans to do something fun.... Not so fun!)
