can anyone help with this qs?

ok....here is my qs...

due to an accident in 99 i do not have a spleen....i had to have a cpl shots due to low immune system with no spleen which im supposed to have these shots every ten yrs i was told but when i had my last lap done a nurse brought this up to me.....she told me everyone is diff and some get the shot every five yrs or more....i said id wait , i wasnt having any probs so id give it a few more yrs ,....well now im having my tah and am wondering if i should bring it up to the pre op nurse at the hospital and if it would benefit me or make things worse with my surg.......has anyone else been in my situation???....see with my accident and spleen removed i was in icu with pneumonia for many days....i know this surg is diff and my dr said she will be giving antibiotics but i did not think to mention this to her.........
if anyone knows what im talking about please write back...thanks........hugssssssssssssssssssssssss

Jen...please, please be totally honest with your pre-op nurse, your doctor, and everyone that asks about your history. They need to know that your spleen has been removed. I think that having your spleen removed brings down your resistance to infections, right? They need to know ahead of time so they can make sure that your recieve any antibiotics you might need. I'm not a doctor or any type of expert by any means, but I know it's important that they know every little piece of your medical history for your own safety. God Bless hon.

spleen imunizations

Not sure about the injection you mentioned, just know my son's requirements. He had an accident summer '00 and his spleen was removed. Our doctor, who is great, says he needs a pneumovax, one for meningitis, and a Hib vaccine every 5 years. You definitely need to make sure all your doctors know you have no spleen.

Please tell them...........You 'd be better safe than sorry......You can pick up any little thing in the hospital no matter how careful or cautious one might be.....

thank u all so much for the replies...and yes i will def bring this up to my pre op nurse on monday......and since one did mention their son needing these injections every five yrs i might as well get the shots before hand since this is major surg and i am due ....thank u all again....i will post what the nurse tells me....thanks....hugssssssssssssssssssssssss
