Re: Hysterectomy bowel prep question

Thanks for the tips, babz4life! Why the Activia, though? Why does that help, and how far in advance should I start eating it? Unfortunately, I already bought the cherry flavor mag citrate since they were sold out of the lemon. I guess now I know why!

Re: Hysterectomy bowel prep question

I know you are dreading the bowel prep, and I was also. While the bowel prep is not pleasant, it was not as bad as I thought. Just make sure you start it at home and stick close to the bathroom.

Also, be warned that sometimes it can take a while to work, so do not panic if things are not happening right away. Mine took about 5 hours

Good luck!

The Activia has good probiotics in the yogurt that help clean you out of the bad stuff but not totally kill everything. Plus it will help with you BM not to be so difficult. I did it the 2 days before my liquid diet/bowel prep day.

Yuck on the cherry flavor. I will tell you it tastes like a half baked cherry pie with 10 pounds of sugar dropped in it. So do you have a sonic around? If so, go get around route 44 Ocean water. Drink half of the ocean water then add the citrate, lots of ice..mix well. Then use the straw and drink it as fast as you can. Don't think about anything else but drinking that drink.

Oh and if you eat jello..green, orange, and yellow will be good. Remember..don't eat or drink anything RED!

Re: Hysterectomy bowel prep question

My tip for getting down the magnesium citrate. I got it really really cold, I also started early because I am a slow drinker even if I'm drinking something that tastes good. I poured half the bottle into a small juice glass and put the rest back in the fridge. Seeing the smaller amount made it easier for me to contemplate drinking it. Then I heated up some chicken broth, nice and hot. I took 2 sips of the prep, then a sip of the broth which took the taste right away. I think that the contrast in flavors and temperature helped me get it down. Once I finished the first glass, I waited about an hour and them drank the second one the same way. good luck

Re: Hysterectomy bowel prep question

Marestail, thanks for the encouragement. Believe me, I'm not planning on going anywhere that day! Thanks for warning me about how long it could take. I'm suppose to start drinking it first thing in the morning, so I won't waste any time getting started in case it takes awhile.
Babz4life, your description of the taste of the cherry citrate gave me a laugh, which is nice right about now! We don't have any Sonic's around, but I so appreciate your tips and strategies. I appreciate the reminder about the red drinks and jello to avoid. It makes you wonder why they even make the citrate red, doesn't it?
Coughy16, I am also a slow drinker. A glass of water can last all day for me. I like the idea of using a smaller glass so that it doesn't look like so much to drink. Thanks so much for your help!
