Experiences with bleeding post op

My TAH is scheduled for 4/23. Plan is to leave ovaries (I'm 51) and doctor said bleeding/spotting after surgery should last 4-7 days. What I have read online it seems to last up to 6 weeks so I'm a bit confused. My Pre-op appointment is on 4/19 so will mention to doctor. Just want to make sure I have enough supplies on hand, spouse has been supportive but if I send him to the store who knows what he will bring home
Thanks for reading this and would appreciate any replies.

Re: Experiences with bleeding post op

I only had spotting for two days immediately following surgery and that was it after that. I will be 9 weeks postop tomorrow. I did wear a panty liner for a while though "just in case". Good luck on your surgery and hope you have a great recovery!

Re: Experiences with bleeding post op

7 weeks post op tomorrow, and I am still wearing panty liners. Thin regular pads were needed only for a few days in week 2 because of my dissolving stitches.

Re: Experiences with bleeding post op

I had little to no bleeding immediately post-op, but started with blood-tinged/tan discharge after about a week and a half and it has lasted 2 weeks so far, but is slowing down. I have been through 1 box regular pad s and 1 box panty liners so far. I need to get to the store now myself. Probably will be sending hubby, so like you said...no telling what I get when he gets home! I did have both ovaries removed though, so that may contribute to how you bleed post-op...not sure? Good luck!

Re: Experiences with bleeding post op

Hello Marijoy...yes my gyno told me i would have discharge possibly up to 5wks post op, she said it may be brownish, colored discharge..so ime now 5.5wks post op and first few days post op i was bleeding and wore tampons, then it stopped and then about in 2-3wks post op i got the discharge and odor, not much discharge just off and on not even enough to wear huge pads or anything,,,and then in 4-5wks post op i started spotting light pink blood and some dishcarge and odor to it,,,so for me all in all so far i havent had to use many pads at all since the surgery...But were all different in how we heal, so its probably best to prepare and have lots of everything on hand as no one knows how they will personally heal until the time comes...Peace be with you
