Has anyone had a hysterectomy as an elective procedure as opposed to doctor suggested
My husband and I have been married for just over three years. I know that does not sound like a long time, but I am weeks from my 39th birthday, and I have never had children. I am overweight, and I know this will present a problem. I asked a doctor once about finding reasons why I have never succeeded in becoming pregnant and he just blew it off. We should be in a position soon where we can afford doctor visits again, and I have been working on losing weight. I either need to start testing right away, or I want to get a hysterectomy. Every time I get my period, I get depressed. I am not sure how much longer I can do this before it is too much. I may come across as selfish, and for that I am sorry, but it is affecting my life too greatly for me to not consider al options. I would rather go forth in life knowing I will never have a child then to go every month being reminded by my own body that I once again failed in my efforts to become pregnant. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thank you.

Re: Has anyone had a hysterectomy as an elective procedure as opposed to doctor sugge
You've joined an amazing community where you'll be able to gather helpful information while sharing with women on the same journey.
There's a forum on this site called Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives where you can start a new thread, just as you did here, to ask for support and to ask questions. Having a hysterectomy is a major operation which can have long-term consequences, so be sure to browse the Hysterectomy Options Checkpoint for important information. Research, ask questions, exhaust viable options and get a couple of medical opinions.
Whatever you decide, we will be here to support you.
