Hello Fellow Idaho Sister!

I will be having a TAH the day before you on 12/13/05.
and I have questions on the stiches on the outside? I don't know yet if it will be horizontal or vertical. How long will it be and how many stiches?

Question about TAH stitches

Hi,
My DR "glued" my incision closed. No staples, no stitches. My incision was about 7 inches long. Good luck to you. Hope your recovery goes well. Keep us informed about how you are doing.

Question about TAH stitches

No stitches, no staples! My incision was also "glued", and the scar is just a perfect straight line. Not exactly sure how long it is, but guessing about 12 inches. Mine goes all the way across.

Best wishes to you and hope you have a speedy recovery!

Life is good!

Question about TAH stitches

This is a question you need to ask your Dr. as it seems that it varies greatly from surgeon to surgeon. Some people have stitches, some have staples. All of my stitches were internal and dissolving. My external incision was a 6 inch horizontal bikini cut and there were no visible stitches. I had about 10 or 11 steri-strips. I had an internal incision (which I can't see, but I can certainly feel) about an inch below my belly button that goes from hip to hip.

Question about TAH stitches

The skin was closed by a running internal stitch that dissolves. I also had steri strips over the incision. My incision runs from hip bone to hip bone and was done along through my old c-section scar.

Question about TAH stitches

mine is vertical. Starts 1 inch below my navel and goes to my pubic bone. It was closed with subcutaneous stitches and steristrips (which can come off within the week) Mine is a very thin scar.
Your incision will depend on what you are having the hysterectomy for . A vertical incision gives the Surgeon more room to operate and he can view your whole abdomen better (Good for large fibroids or cancer or spreading endo concerns). By the way I am 6 wweeks post yesterday and feel great-starting to do a few leg lifts in the pool to get my abs started back in shape.
