11 days post hysterectomy: opened incision - dr. on vaca next week!

Hi all,

my surgeon used glue to close my incisions from my TLH on 10/13. On side healed perfectly and the glue has come off but it's closed and clear. The other side, not so much. The glue just came off and the incision is still open. Gaping almost! I had this happen after a c-section and just had to keep it covered, but that was 11 years ago. My surgeon is on vaca next week. I'm wondering if I should go see my primary and make sure I don't need antibiotics and maybe see if she can close it again with glue? Figures this happens on FRIDAY!!!!
Any advice is certainly appreciated!

Can you call you're surgeon's office? Alot of doctors will have someone cover their patients when they are on vacation. Just a thought. If not, i would definitely call family doctor. They may not be able to see you though last resort would be urgent care or er. Good Luck!!!!

I went to a drug store and bought steri strips to hold mine together while it finished healing. They took the stitches out and it kept popping open. It's almost healed now.

So good to know - thank you! Did you cover it with a bandaid as well? I'll go get steri strips tomorrow. I really appreciate it!

This does depend on what your incision looks like.

If it is clearly only a superficial gape with no oozing then you could steri strip, Anything else should be shown to a nurse at the very least.

Of course - if there was any leaking, I'd have gone to urgent care, but it's clean and doesn't appear infected or injured. Just a hole. Thank you!

No, I didn't. I wanted it to dry out and heal. There was some drainage for a couple days but it wasn't infected. A little bit of drainage is ok while it is healing. Puss or smelly drainage and bright red is not ok!

Worse comes to worse, it will get your through until Monday.
