Had my pre-op. Doing the happy dance!

DR started out telling me she was planning a vaginal hyst. I asked if she could leave my cervix and her reply was, "Not YOUR cervix." Well, okay, it has been giving me a few problems - she's right. She re-assured me that I wouldn't have any problem with a prolapse after she was done.

Next we talked about my ovaries. She was thinking of leaving them but I reminded her I wanted estrogen. She agreed she'd let me have estrogen post-op so it didn't matter if I left my ovaries or not. Hubby chimed in and said he didn't want me to have any more surgeries if we could help it (I'm at slightly increased risk for ovarian cancer due to infertility treatments). It's agreed. I'll get estrogen! (Happy dance! Happy dance!)

She mentioned she wanted me to have an epidural. I reminded her I became paralysized when she numbed my cervix during the LEEP. I prefer to have a general. I'm watching my asthma carefully so I think a general will be fine (I've had generals twice before). Again, Happy Dance! My imagination tends to run away with me so being anything near conscious would be panic-attack time.

Lastly I mentioned I wanted to know what is causing all this pain. About 12 years ago I had a laproscopy (sp?) and the DR didn't find any endo. Before I get closed up for good, I want to make sure there's nothing in there. She agreed to do a lap assisted VH. Yeah! I forgot to ask her to take pictures.

The only unanswered question is pain management. Anything with codeine in it (Vicodin) just gives me a wide-awake buzz. I react strangely to any of the "aines" (novacaine, etc). Nausea and migrane being primary symptoms. I have to look up to see what's in Percocet. Maybe I can take that. Valium makes me suicidal (literally, I'm not joking). She says doubling up on the ibuprofen and Tylenol won't be enough. I asked for Demerol but she said that would make me nauseous (I don't remember that being a side effect.) Sigh! What's a princess to do?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Side note: I have a genetic tendancy toward blood clots. I get heprin during and after the surgery and the leg compression bandages. Oh joy.

The up-side is there's no bowel prep or douching.

keep doing the happy dance

Demerol doesn't always make you nauseous. Given IV. . . .if it is given slowly and diluted it won't make you sick. Some nurses push the medication too fast into the iv and the rush of demerol going into the system can make you sick. Good luck.
Besides there is always phenergan that can be given together with demerol if the demerol makes you sick.

Hi HepCat!

I'm sorry I cant answer your questions about meds, but I wanted to say I'm so happy for you. Sounds like you have a great DR and supportive husband. We're all pulling for you!

Hugz,

Tara
