How do I tell my 6 yr old about my surgery?

I talked with my son tonight, and he seems ok with it. I just told him that sometimes I have felt bad and really tired and hadn't been able to do as much with him at those times, and that there was something in my tummy that the doctor was going to fix and I would feel better. Whew!

So, it's off to the castle tomorrow!

Best wishes to all who have their surgeries coming up!

I'm glad to hear it went well and he's ok with it.

Best wishes to you and don't forget to take care of yourself. Mom's tend to push themselves too hard.

How do I tell my 6 yr old about my surgery?

In addition to explaining how the doctor will fix me all up, I purchased a number of inexpensive treats and several cute or silly cards. I attached little notes, wrapped them up in bright tissue paper, and put them in a basket. My son (8 years old), will be able to choose something each day until they run out. Now he can't wait until he can start opening his little gifts! Only two days yet!
Good luck tomorrow!

How do I tell my 6 yr old about my surgery?

I am still working on this. I have cervical cancer and have had NO pain or other symptoms to explain why I am going to the doctor. I am just telling my daughter that I have a "bad germ" in my tummy that would make me really sick if I don't let the doctors take it away. But in your case, you could perhaps simplify the matter, and say your tummy hurts all the time, and you need surgery to take the pain away. It certainly helps to minimize the situation. But the kids seem to understand that although going to the doctor sometimes hurts, it does make you BETTER in the end.
