Getting anxious here
Hi Ladies,
I have one week to go and although it seemed like a fast surgery date, it seems to be coming up more quickly than I thought.
I've been cleaning the house like crazy, trying to organize things so hubby can find them, worrying about childcare but most of all I'm really worried about resting when I get home because I am NOT a resting kind of person. I'm always on the go.
I'm not worried about the surgery or why I am having it. Its all the stuff around it. The after wards. I don't want to be in a position where I am laying around thinking about just laying around and quite honestly I have short attention spans which is probably why it takes me 2 years to read one book.
I did start to pack my bag. I went and picked up a small counted cross stitch kit, which I threw a few stitches in to get started. I have a book, my cd player and some CD's. I'll probably listen to music the most out of everything.
I don't know, I just wanted to come here and vent - I'm obviously having a stressful day. I did talk to the gyn today about what happens with my bladder and he said that he is going to stitch it back into the same place as far as he can. He used the words posterior and anterior and cuff but none of it made sense and it wouldn't unless I could see it in pictures or drawings. He said there are other methods and other doc's will sometimes leave the bladder go where it wants to but he was trained to stitch it and thats what he does and it works. He's a very nice doctor.
So thats it for my little vent. I am just totally worried about resting. My aunt who has the same "on the go all the time" tendencies said that she had the same concern but her body told her when to slow down or not do something at all. She said it will come naturally to me to figure it out but somehow hearing that didn't make me feel better about it.
My girlfriend is taking me to the Walnut St Theatre tonight to see CAROSEL and I should be excited about it but my mind is bent on the afterwards. I hope I can enjoy myself tonight!

Getting anxious here
I hope you enjoy the Theatre tonight...let it take your mind off of your surgery just for a little while...
I can relate about not being able to sit for long...but I've consistently read others' posts to relax, take it easy and let your body heal (it'll be tough, but it's good advice) I have a month to go before my date and I'm beginning to get the anxious feeling.
take care

I know where you are coming from PADragonfly. I am worried too. I am always on the go, I can not sit still. I am worried about me after the surgery. I do not have children, but I do think that I can relate to 'being on the go all the time".
I just hope that after my surgery I can relax.

Have the same date as you! It hit me today that it is only 1 week left. A visit from AF and pain from my right ovary is helping me with wanting to hurry it along. I think our bodies will make sure we take it easy.

Getting anxious here
I had my last Aunt Flow during the last week of June. Needless to say I am not sorry she will not be visiting ever again! Selfishly, I feel lucky he scheduled me so quickly, if I had months or weeks to think about this I'd probably go crazy.
I'm trying very hard to relax NOW and prepare for later.
Maybe after a nice dinner and show, I'll wake up feeling better tomorrow.
It's so nice to have you to talk to and get comfort from!
LISAINTEXAS - One week. My surgery is at 11 am eastern time. I have my pre-admissions tomorrow.

Getting anxious here
Hi!
I am 5 weeks post op and I have tried to enjoy my down time. I have read many books, caught up on movies, organized my photo albums (big job), cleaned out junk drawers, and organized bills and paperwork. These were all things I could do while sitting around and I'm sure there are more you can think of. Just try to relax and enjoy the down time for a while. Good luck!

Getting anxious here
PADragonfly- Hi- Oh my God, I must be your twin, I'm having my surgery the EXACT date as yours. I'm making myself nuts along with EVERYONE around me. Husband, friends, co-workers. I'm going in for fibroids which i never knew i had, found on my yearly pap, no pain, no heavy bleeding, etc. I'm a VERY active 40 yr old, lift weights, bike ride, motorcycle ride, etc. etc. always on the go etc. Why are you having the "H" word??? My dr. said i have several fibroids, but i have one that is 7 times the size of my uterus. where i'm hiding it, have no clue, my stomach is flat. sooo hoping to do it lap, if not gonna do a explor. lap through my old c-section scar. I'm a control freak, and want to know everything, doesn't help being a ER nurse either. Well i wish you the best, hope to hear from you !!!

Getting anxious here
I go for my pre-op appt in the morning. I don't yet know what time of day my surgery will be, but I suppose I'll find that out tomorrow. I'm a planner so not knowing these things drives me nuts.

Getting anxious here
I had all your anxieties and more. I prepared and prepared and prepared...for 6 years! I even made my own hospital gowns! I am beyond terrified of hospitals due to a traumatic hospitalization when I was 2 years old, nearly 55 years ago, which I still remember. I sort of went into a heavy state of denial, almost a dissociative cloud, to get through the op. Also, I hate not being in control and worried horribly about the post-op time as I am a bit short in attention span as well. I now (13 days post-op) spend a lot of time reading threads on hystersisters and have actually decided not to drive tomorrow even though I am "allowed" to. I read about other sisters doing too much too soon and although I'm a little stir-crazy, I don't want to end up with an infection and/or re-hospitalization. I like to talk on the phone so I've been catching up with old friends. Also I collected DVDs of old TV shows (Rockford Files, BBC's All Creatures Great and Small) and have been watching them and it transports me back in time to when I first saw them. Also ordered a gazillion old movies from the library (you could do Netflix or another service, but library is free and DH can go pick them up for me) and really enjoy watching them. I love to read, but am not able to do that for very long, for some reason. Maybe I just can't get comfortable.
Not knowing the time of surgery until the day before drove me crazy too so I begged the scheduler to put me on the list first (which she couldn't have done if there had been a diabetic patient that day) and she did so, although I had to get up VERY early, I got it over with.
You will be so relieved when it is over. Call on old friends and family to each help you a little (bring one casserole, vacuum for you once) and it will help. I've had people step forward who surprised me by doing so. Then again, I've a couple disappointments from some.
If you have time, get a Scrubbing Bubbles automatic shower cleaner for when you get home. (Is it OK to mention brand names?) No installation, just hang it on your shower head arm and after each shower, you just push a button and it spritzes all over. (Be sure and close the shower door/curtain!) Also get a back brush or loofah on a stick to wash with. You won't feel like doing a lot of bending over. Also I either use a bell to summon my minion/slave or we use walkie-talkies if he's out in the yard.
Although we are stong women, this is a time in our lives when we must be dependent, so give in and just say "please" and "thank you" a lot and ask for help. How much nurturing have we done for others? Now it's our turn! Rest, sleep and heal.
You will be sooooo relieved whne it is over. Just take it easy and realize that the recovery time really can be 6 weeks, so don't rush it. Whatever you think you can do, especially within 2 weeks post-op, you can probably do less than half of that.
