waxing before surgery?

Does anyone know if it is okay to get a bikini wax before TAH? I would rather them not shave me as I think the incision will be itchy enough without the razor itch factor.

Also is it okay to bath (instead of shower) once the staples are out or do I have to wait until I am cleared at the 4-8 week mark?

Re: waxing before surgery?

You have a couple of very good questions for your doctor. Many doctors do not want you to shave or wax before surgery because of the possibility of infection from micro cuts. Others are okay if it is done a certain length of time before the surgery so it is best to ask. Remember though that if you do not follow instructions, you are risking having your surgery cancelled.

And bathing is the same. Some doctors okay it sooner than others. Mine told me to wait 6 weeks.

I hope this helps!

Re: waxing before surgery?

I'd avoid the waxing due to the infection potential of irritated skin. I was pretty surprised at how little they shaved me. Just about the first half inch between pelvic bone and belly button and that little vertical line in between. NOT between my legs at all! It was nowhere near any of my incisions. I had a da Vinci so it might be different for other methods.

My doc told me at my post op (2 1/2 weeks) that I could take quick baths as long as I didn't submerge my incisions for any length of time. Again, might be different if you have a bigger incision.

Re: waxing before surgery?

I shaved during my shower the morning of surgery. Have been shaving for YEARS so I didn't even think to ask if I shouldn't. I'd say if you aren't used to it already let them do it if they need to. Most likely they will only shave a very small amount anyway.

I agree with the infection risk to open skin/pores... too many floating around hospitals these day... I trimmed but didn't shave/wax before.

Re: waxing before surgery?

I was wondering the same thing! Was @ the Dr today & didn't have that one on my list of questions! I have never had a wax before, but oh what a perfect time to try! Heck, its going to be sore anyway! Hahaha I'm going BACK to the Dr in 2 days so Im going to have to ask.
