Hysterectomy Recovery progress - roller coaster

Helllo - had my SAH on 8/22. Removed uterus, ovaries, tubes, kept cervix. Surgery went well, hospital was wonderful at managing everything. First day home (3 days post op) was pretty good. 4th and 5th day post op were horrible. Crying/super emotional, vomiting (low grade fever), lots of pain like one never ending contraction, hot flashes and constipation. It was rough. Now at day 8 post op and feeling better. You can read all about this stuff and read all the posts of experiences but for me, you really just can't fully comprehend until you go through it. Right now it is all about learning how to move a little differently, remember there are still limits and continue to take it easy even though I'm starting to feel a little better. 2-3 days ago, I thought I would never feel better (yes, true pity party lol). Love this site and all the information and support. Although I haven't posted much, I visit frequently

Re: Recovery progress - roller coaster

Hi jmo

Thanks for sharing your experience. I just love spending time here reading about everyone's healing process. My recovery has been far more than what I had expected to be. Not only do we have to learn how to move a little differently, our sleeping positions have changed, our energy levels aren't stable and the list goes on and on. The wonderful part is that with each passing day, I am feeling stronger and better than I did the day before. Our bodies have been through major surgery and it is going to take time to return to where we once were on so many levels. Someday down the road, we will look back at this time in our lives and be glad that the roller coaster finally came to a stop.

Take care
