going in March 8th for supracervical hyster. Nervous as I am a smoker(trying to stop)and 54 years of age. Scared of anasthesia and side effects. Haven't seemed to have much of a mind for a long time.(spelling ability either)I will have my ovaries removed also. I think my uterus is starting to prolapse if I go by how I feel. Backaches are getting out of hand. How long do I plan for being out of work and how long will I be done when I first get home. I have felt unsure about doing this as I have times I feel pretty good then everything just goes to hell and when the pain returns I have become quite a baby.
Should I plan on doing hormone replacement and has anyone tried bioidenticals.
Help any suggestions.

I had a tah/bso when I was 54 years old too. I've always gotten nauseous from anesthesia. I talked to my dr about it ahead of time and he ordered meds that kept it in check.

The morning after my surgery, I was gotten up & sent to the showers - it was scary at first but I made it. After that I started walking the hospital halls as often as possible. I never was really "bed ridden ". You do need to be careful for awhile, no heavy lifting, move slowly and carefully. I was allowed to drive after 2 weeks and released for normal activities after 6 weeks. Just follow your drs orders and listen to your own body.

I was started on hrt the day after my hyst ( estrogen only ). After some tweaking on the dosage, I've done pretty well. I'm still taking it now at almost 5 years post op. I've heard good things about the bioidenticals but have not taken it. I think that you should discuss all your options with your dr and together decide what is best for you.

I was off work for 6 weeks with my TAH/panniculectomy, but truth be told, I really should have taken 8 weeks off. (Because of the second procedure, I had an open hip-to-hip incision, and it wasn't closed at 6 weeks.) Most ladies report that it is somewhere between 4-8 weeks that they need to miss. And sometimes you can start back to week part-time to "ease" back into the schedule.

Also, the Tell Your Hyst-Story Forum contains all sorts of experiences of who have gone before you. For some reason, I got great comfort in reading those stories (and I still read them!).

Thanks so much for reply. I was under the impression that the lsh was so much less invasive that I could expect to be up rather quickly in comparison to the TAH.
