On Monday morning I'll become a princess...some final questions ?
First off I want to wish any of you ladies in waiting ...if Monday is your day as well I want to wish you the best of luck, the easiest recovery as it can possibly be ! I truly hope the waiting is in fact the hardest part. I'm having LAVH ...I'm going to try to keep both ovaries. Anyone know how soon I will know if my ovaries are not going to shut down...or is there a certain time frame I will know that I'm in the clear? My Dr. had me start fasting at 9:00 am this Sat. morning...just clear liquids....I'm to continue this until midnight Sunday night. And also have to drink this solution called electro-lite..it's a powder in a gallon jug I have to mix with water.I start this tomorrow at noon. What if I can't drink it all ,any suggestions on what would make it go down better?Never had this kind before. My last 4 laps I only had to drink this little 8 ounce bottle that came in cherry or lime. The lime was very ,very salty.I thought for sure I was going to vomit. As far as my nerves go ...I've been taking valuim when needed.Helps tremendously with taking the edge off.I spoke with a nurse at the hospital...she said I might need a catheter or might not.Why is it some do & some don't? My pains keep reminding me I'm making the right choice.I just hope the endo has not made to much of a mess in me.One more question ...which do you think it better for pain afterwards...Demoral or the Morphine pump? I've never had Morphine & am worried it might make me sick.My sister had this kind of reaction. Any other suggestions on how to prepare myself or what I should bring with me to the hospital?
Thank you all of you ...I would go crazy without this site & all the valuble information you all have to offer.Take care

On Monday morning I'll become a princess...some final questions ?
Hi, Joanne,
I haven't had the pleasure of drinking electrolyte solution, but I've heard that the best way to make it palatable is by serving it ice cold.
As far as I know, everybody gets a catheter, but it's usually in for 24 hours or less.
Someone posted the morphine vs. demeral question here recently, and she got about a 50/50 ratio in her answers. About half of the women who replied preferred demerol, and the other half preferred morphine in their PCA pump.
If your ovaries do "shut down" temporarily, you'll start experiencing menopausal symptoms right away. Usually the "shut down" is just temporary.
Now, I have a question for you. What can you do to help yourself find some peace and relaxation, until your surgery? I designated my last couple of days as a LIW as "be nice to me" days. I did things I enjoyed during those days. I took some peaceful walks, listened to uplifting music, enjoyed my favorite foods, had candles and flowers around just because I like them, and surrounded myself with the ones I love. All of this helped me to relax, and I felt peaceful when I entered the hospital. Maybe you should give this a try?
Good luck with your surgery.
Best wishes,
Helen

Ask about nausea medication before you go into surgery. Make sure your doctor has orders in your file for nausea meds in case either the morphene or demerol make you sick.
They gave me meds for nausea and it kept me from throwing up and put me back to sleep, which was just as well.
I didn't do electrolyte solution -- I had to drink a gallon of water. If you can't drink it all, you can't. That's that. Just get as much as you can into your system.
You can ask for some stronger relaxant as soon as you get to the hospital. I did, and they complied. It make the hour or so before surgery quite pleasant, as a matter of fact.
Best wishes.
