Douche & Enema?????

I just got done talking to the hospital.

I didn't realize I have to have a douche and enema at the hospital before surgery. ACK!

Bless your heart sweetie......There is a bright side, You don't have to drink that yucky stuff and it is yucky no matter what you do i mixed it with gingerale and it still made me gag.......

I've never heard of the douche before surgery though.....Maybe someone will be along shortly that has had to do that to......

I had not even thought about that!!!

Does everyone have to do that before surgery???

tamecat..I think the bowel prep is at the doctors discretion whether or not they they choose it.........Mine was drink two bottles of magnesium citrate day before and two enemas the morning of surgery........I have never heard of the douche before surgery but I guess some doctors may choose that as well......

Well, I found the douche odd also, b/c I'm having my period....(TMI?) and I'm having an abdominal hysterectomy....

I can see the enema I guess b/c I've had many many problems with adhesion/endo. on my colon.

I've had to drink the stuff for colonoscopies before and I can say, you're right, I'd much rather have the enema. That liquid stuff is wicked! YUK!

I had to do a douche and enema at home the night before my surgery. Yucky - but at least I didn't have to drink the stuff that so many people have to drink. I think it has something to do with less opportunities for infection in case there is an accidental nick, etc.

rebz I would call your doc back and make sure he/she knows I was on my period i speak from experiance when I say douching while on that time of the month can introduce bacteria into the cervix i think was what it was I was like 16 and got a very nasty infection.........

I did the douche and enema before my surgery. The douche had iodine in it, so I doubt it would introduce bactieria. I was doubtful about the enema, because I was having diarrhea (brought on by nerves), but to my surprise the enema stopped the stomach cramps and diarrhea and I felt much better after it.

After reading people's descriptions of drinking the yukky stuff, I think the enema was much better.

Oh, and I also was told to take a shower using this surgical soap from the neck down. I've probably never been so clean in my life.

its been awhile like i said but ...It did cause an infection while douching on your period.....and it maybe that the doc is taking out whatever it was that got infected on me that time so it might not matter any way.............better safe than sorry I would just mention it.......

OK that is a different thing I didn't think about but I'll put it on the list to ask the doctor when he calls today. As far as the Enima I don't think I could figure that one out on my own and I don't think I would want to I would rather drink the yucky stuff again. Good luck!
