New to Sis Forum...Scared to be Scarred

I am 43 years old and I have had 3 children(1 natural and 2 Ceasarian).
I have been told to have a Hyster by my doc who has told me of options like...

1. Do Nothing
2. Curette
3. Burn the Womb Lining
etc etc
4. Vaginal or Open Hyster

Why? I bleed for long "periods" excuse the pun...

I have had an ultrasound showing no cancer

Has anybody out there been confronted with this choice?

Im nervaz big time.

Like, What will happen emotionally to me?
What will happen Physically to me?
Are there better options?
Will I still Love sex?

Thanks for your reply

Love Deb

HI DEB,
HAVE YOU MADE UP YOUR MIND YET TO HAVE THE SURGERY OR NOT?THE DR.IS OFFERING YOU DIFFERENT OPPOTIONS.

1-DO NOTHING-CONITUE ON WITH THE BLEEDING AND PAIN.HOPE IT DOES NOT GET WORSE.

2-CURETTE-TRY DIFFERENT HRT'S TO SEE IF IT HELPS

3-LIKE A D&C-WHICH MIGHT HELP FOR A WHILE

4-VAGINIAL OR OPEN HYST.-NO MATTER IF YOU ASK FOR THE VAGINIAL WHICH THEY SAY IS THE EASY WAY SOME WHAT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THIS SITE.NOT ALWAYS CAN THEY DO IT THIS WAY.

5-IF NOT SURE OF YOUR SELF GET SECOND OPININ AND VISIT THE SITE WHERE OTHERS ARE MAKING UP THERE MIND AND SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR DECIDISON TALK WITH YOU MORE ANOTHER TIME.

Thanks Barbara

Thanks for the quik reply.
After searching topics on this forum and beyond Ive decided to do a few things

1. Get more than one opinion
2. Seek out a woman Dr to give that opinion(s)
3. Not rush into it/but not put it off

Such a huge operation (and its implications) have certainly hit home.

Not sure if this will help you, but as my Dr put it to me 3 years ago, "you will know when it is time!". I had very heavy periods lasting 10-12 days with clotting and flooding, after almost three years of it , I decided to have the surgery. It was just screwing up my life so badly, and the other options didn't make as much sense to me so I opted for the surgery. For me it was the best thing I have ever done for myself! I still can't believe I will never have another period again! What a liberating feeling You have to do what's best for YOU! Getting another opinion is a great start, best of luck with you're search! Hi! If your only symptoms are long periods, i would DEFINITELY get another opinion. Or two, or three! This is majory surgery, and there are no do-overs!

It can be a life-enhancing surgery, but you owe it to yourself to get educated about your symptoms, research all your options thoroughly, talk to a few other doctors, and then make a decision based on all the facts and how YOU feel.

There is no reason to be rushed into surgery. Start reading, and get those opinions!!!

This is a great place to begin, so keep reading and posting, check out our forum Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives, and we'll all be here to help every step of the way.

Hang in there!
