Discharge - should I be concerned or not?

My surgery was 5-5, which originally was to be laparoscopic to remove my overy only. However, once the dr looked inside, the ovary was too big to do it laparoscopic, so I had an abdominal surgery. It took over 4 1/2 hrs, and I had to have blood transfusion during surgery and again when recovering a couple days later. I was in for 4 days. I'm still quite sore but getting better. I'm still having some discharge. which is a little dark gold/brown, but not sure if that is normal. Maybe it's due to antibiotics I'm on. I had a follow up dr appt, but forgot to mention it to her. Is this a concern or no?

It could be a yeast infection so I would have them check for that if you are on antibiotics. Let us know what you find out.

Re: Discharge - should I be concerned or not?

Hi Kardmmd
Welcome to Hystersisters! I'm glad you're beginning to feel a little better. I'm sorry you needed the transfusions.

I had the dark discharge too. It is old blood and is very common. As your stitches dissolve and tissue heals, it often causes a discharge, which can change colors as you progress with your healing. Mine turned yellow at about five week, which my dr said was from the dye in the sutures he used. If you get a 'fishy' odor or if anything doesn't seem right, don't hesitate to call your dr and have it checked out.

I hope you heal well and get to feeling better soon. Keep us posted on your progress.
Rita

Thanks for the reply. I kinda assumed this was "normal" but it's helpful to hear if others have similar issues.
