Large Ventral Hernia & 3.6 X 4.0 Mass on ovary

Hello Sisters,
I am scheduled for surgery April 14th, for hernia repair. I also have a large 3.6 X 4.0 mass on my left ovary. I had a hysterectomy on 1/15/03 and he took everything but that left ovary. My OB wants to take that ovary now as well, so I may have to reschule my hernia operation, but I did not want to get cut twice, it's bad enough I have this long scare on my stomach from the first operation, I'm really not feeling this. I'm going to talk with my OB & the doctor that's doing my hernia repair and see if there's someway that they can be done together.

Thanks for listening just wanted to vent.

Shelly

hernia repair

I would think both could be done at once - if you read enough posts here, you'll find a number of sisters whose drs found a hernia and repaired it while working on the hyst or oophrectomy. Good luck! cj

I too hope they will be able to do the two surgeries at the same time. I think it's fairly common to do so. In my case, the plastic surgeon opened me up and did the panniculectomy, the gyno surgeon did the hysterectomy, then the plastic surgeon came back in and closed me up (well, sort of -- they left the incision mostly open). It was a tag-team effort all the way through!

Best wishes to you.

I did have a large recurrent ventral hernia repaired at the same time as hyst. The general surgeon opened up, the Gyn did the hyst, the general surgeon finished the mesh hernia repair.
The general surgeon had recommmend epidural for pain control afterward, the GYN strongly advised against it. I sure wish I had gone with the general surgeon's advice.
Good luck.

Thanks Ladies,

My surgery has been reschuled until Friday April 22nd, my OB wants to bring in a Gynecological Oncologist just in case the mass is cancer, which I'm crossing my fingers & toes that it's not, but he doesn't want to take any chances since my mom, aunt, grandfather and a few other family member have had their bouts with cancer. The doctor that's doing the hernia operation is also going to be there, so at least everything can be done at once.

So Ladies keep me in your prayers,

Thanks.
