Granulation - 7 months post-op
I've been spotting periodically since my 9/2005 TAH. I finally went back to see my Dr. (yesterday) because I didn't understand how I could be bleeding and where from! Well - I found out that I have some granulation and my Dr. used silver nitrate to treat it. Yeow!!!!! I had no idea what to expect from that. Apparently granulation is very common - I wish I would have taken care of it sooner. My Dr. did not say anything about what to expect after the silver nitrate - but it is not fun. I'm cramping and having very disturbing discharge (dark gray & black) almost looks like tissue of some kind. I'm back to wearing a liner and need to change the sheets because I was not "prepared" for what was to come last night!!!
Can anybody else confirm that this is normal? I haven't visited this site for quite some time because I thought I was done with the questions.
My Dr. said if the silver nitrate doesn't do the trick that she'll just "snip it out". I go back in 4 weeks. I'm definitely going to ask her to elaborate on exactly what "snipping" it out means. I'm kind of upset right now that she didn't clue me in to the silver nitrate after-effects.
Thanks in advance

Granulation - 7 months post-op
After a silver nitrate treatment for granulation, a grayish/black discharge is pretty normal. It can last for a few days and may change to a clear discharge before tapering off to none. Cramping can also be normal and usually only lasts for a day or two. If you still have a discharge after a week, call your doctor.

I hope you are feeling better soon! Hang in there and let us know how you're doing.

dggal,
How did they know that it was granulation, what tests did you have if any? I am going through the same thing. Spotting since 9/05. Any advice would be great.

I wonder if you can have granulation still and no spotting?
I've just posted a new thread re my painful "spot", then saw this thread (isn't that always the way!). It never occurred to me we could still have granulation at this late state.
I was treated twice with silver nitrate at 8wks and follow up - and yes, it did smart for sure and Dr didn't tell me either!
Perhaps I should have someone look at it. GP or Specialist I wonder which is best.

Giamia73 - When I went into the doc and had a pelvic exam she saw the area of granulation. Apparently it's very visible - but I kind of wish I knew what it looked like. I searched online, but I couldn't find any pictures.

Granulation - 7 months post-op
My doctor found the granulation by doing an internal exam at 6 weeks. I then had to wait another two weeks for clearance. I had a few spots of fresh blood from this and doctor said that is a normal sign. He said basically it is an area that doesn't heal as quickly or in the same way as the rest.
