Re: bowel prep

Its interesting that doctors give such different directions....
I was told that the day before surgery, eat a normal breakfast, about noon drink one bottle of Mag. Citrate, and then drink the other bottle around dinner time. Once I started that process, no food at all only clear liquids (water, apple juice, etc. No orange juice as it has pulp) They want nothing in the stomach at all.
This stuff tasted awful, and I threw up half the second bottle. It was worse than preping for a colonoscopy, as far as I was concerned. But I understand the real need to have the bowel empty before surgery. I guess it allows more space inside the body and also, should the bowel be nicked during surgery, prevents all that junk from emptying into the field of surgery. We don't want that to happen, so we do these things.
Hang in there.

Re: bowel prep

Crazy how each doctor is different, I don't need to drink anything and no diet restrictions although an enema is is my near future.

Re: bowel prep

I had to do clear liquid all day. Then at 5pm I had to drink one bottle of mag citrate and take two ducolax pills.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Hugs and Prayers!
