Yes! Finally some answers!
Hey Sisters,
I'm so excited - I finally have some answers to problems I've been having since my LAVH on March 8. I kept my ovaries. I am having pregnancy symptoms like sore, enlarged breasts, gaining weight around the mid-section, mood swings, acne, forgetfulness and I've been having ovulation-like pains in my pelvis since my surgery. It has seemed to get worse. I saw my doctor today and he said I'm stuck in the luteal phase and my estrogen is way out of control - so he put me on progesterone supplements. I hope things get better now - I know my family does too. I'm relieved to know I'M NOT CRAZY! LOL
Has anyone else ever been on progesterone supplements? This is supposedly a natural one - prometrium is what it's called.
Lots of love to all of you,
FollowingHim

FollowingHim,
Inquiring minds want to know - what is the leatul phase and how exactly does he know that your estrogen levels are out of whack? Are there tests that they run? Just curious because I have to go back to my Dr. tomorrow with lots of issues, some of which are the same as yours.
Thanks,
Charlene

Hi Charlene,
The luteal phase is the phase during the month just after ovulation and before your period (if I had a period, that is!). Progesterone levels drop dramatically during this phase but then regain strength after menstruation, I believe. Yes, they have blood tests to check hormone levels, but my doctor said he could tell from looking at my symptoms that is what it is and he has seen this before in women who have had a hysterectomy but have kept ovaries. He said it should all even out eventually on it's own but that a supplement will help me in the meantime. I hope you get some answers and relief!
Blessings!

my doc had me taking prometrium for about 4 months to control my bleeding...i had my tubes tied and then the bleeding went crazy so he had me take the med until i could have my hyst...i took it for a week after the hyst and he told me i could stop it...now i am feeling exactly like you said!! I go to the doc tomorrow and im going to ask him too about checking my hormone levels just to see whats going on. i hope i am just having period symptoms and that i dont have to start taking anything again...

I may have been mistaken about progesterone levels dropping dramatically in normal luteal phases - I think I have that backwards - I think it actually increases in normal luteal phases, but with me (for some reason) I am very low in progesterone but stuck in the phase. Ok, now I'm really confused! LOL
Either way, I'm hoping this will work. I do have a question for anyone who has taken this prometrium before - does it cause you to feel a "pins and needles" sensation in your arms & legs??? I have had that feeling since I took my first dose last night. It's not horrendous, but it is annoying!
Ladies, let us know how your appointments go! I hope things go well for both of you.

STOP TAKING THIS RIGHT AWAY, in my opinion and contact your doctor. One of the side effects to seek medical attention is tingling in the arms and legs (sounds like pins and needles to me). Here is a website on Prometrium Progestertone, and see side effects: http://prometrium.drugs.com/
Here' s a website on the Luteal Phase: http://www.ovulation-calendar.com/hl...eal-phase.html
I take Emerita Progesterone Cream, I buy it either at the health food store or online. It is wonderful and all natural. I get the tender lump under the armpit, and headaches and this takes it away. The company tells you how to use it if you are in menopause or in your reproductive years. I follow the reproductive years, as if I am still having my periods because I kept my ovaries. The direction for the reproductive years say not to use during the Luteal Phase.
