TVH: scared about total vaginal hysterectomy

Hello my fellow hystersisters. I'm due to have my TVH in two days. I'm a little nervous. Will I be given something to relax me before they wheel me in the operating room? Do I need to ask the anesthesiologist for something to relax me or will I be given it automatically? Also I've been seeing a lot of post about nausea from the anesthesia. I've never had problems with it in the past but all surgeries are different. Should I ask for anti-nausea medicine to be on the safe side?

While you are still in pre-op the surgeon and anesthesiologist will come see you. Ask the anesthesiologist then for something for anxiety. I've never had problems before with anesthesia and I didn't this time. If you are worried though, talk to the anesthesiologist about a nausea patch. Best of luck

I was nauseous after my lap in September so I warned the docs this time. They treated me before surgery and I had no real troubles.

They have me some happy juice before I was wheeled back. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

You are going to do great! Hugs! The pre op anxiety was so much worse than the surgery.

talk to both the anesthesiologist and the RN who you will see probably before your surgeon.

I remember taking a little pill about 30 minutes before my surgery and then the anesthesiologist putting something in the IV line right before they started wheeling me out of the room. I said one last goodbye/love you to my husband, then don't remember anything else until I was walking up in recovery.

Ditto!!! I could have written this post myself! I asked about having something calming at the hospital pre op visit. I didn't want to wait to arrange it on the morning of surgery. I remember saying love you to my husband, and then I woke up in recovery.
