Failed D&C and Hysteroscopy

Hi, I'm post-menopausal and have had problems with spotting on and off. The spotting started about the time I started hormone replacement therapy which I have just ended. Even though I'm in a phase now where I'm not spotting, my doctor wanted me to have a D&C and hysteroscopy to be sure everything is OK with my uterus. What happened today was that my doctor couldn't enter my uterus because I have a long cervix and a fibroid was blocking his access. He was able to take some tissue samples though. My ultrasound showed that I have multiple fibroids but all are pretty small.

I feel uneasy and disappointed with what happened because I'm not sure if the sampling results (provided they are negative) and no more spotting would be enough to assure me that there is nothing to really be worried about. My doctor did say that we will go over the pathology report in a follow-up visit and that if that looked good he thought everything would be fine to leave as is. However, if I continue to have spotting, something else will have to be done.

Has anyone else ever had this experience? Another surgeon did a D&C for me two years ago while I was having a rectocele repair with success. The findings then were negative. The same surgeon did a uterine biopsy a year ago and those results were negative too. It's just that this random bleeding/spotting has been making me go though these things and of course they are uncomfortable and work on my nerves a bit as well.

Re: Failed D&C and Hysteroscopy

I don't have any real experiences like you have had, but I had a lacoscopic hysterectomy. They took everything! Cysts on/ in ovaries and Fallopian tubes. Best/easiest surgery ever! 7 weeks post op now-working out no problems! Maybe you should just have them take out everything?
