need some advice, ladies...
Good morning, Ladies~
Hope everyone is doing okay out there. I have a recent concern. I'm currently seeing a reproductive endocrinologist who deals with endo issues. This past August, at the end of the month, I had an emergency laparotomy due to two large (10cm) cysts on either ovary, the left ovary being in torsion, and a few other dilemmas. My OBGYN did this surgery and then sent me to the specialist for further treatment.
My body can't handle lupron...I've now got osteopenia from past treatments on it, and am on treatment for the bone loss now. I can't handle estrogen either; it raises my blood pressure and makes me bleed profusely. I am currently on progesterone continuous bcp. However, I bled for a month straight on it, after being on it for over 3 months, stopped bleeding for only a couple of weeks and then began bleeding for another 10 days or so. That finally ceased.
The specialist ran two ultrasounds and an SIS on me, and also has my post-op reports to go by. On the first ultrasound he found a cyst at 2.5cm growing already, and that was at 4 weeks post-op. Now, after this last ultrasound, I get a call saying to schedule for a lap. I called back thinking, my word, I just did a laparotomy, there's no way I'm doing another surgery, albeit a lot less invasive, just yet. They weren't going to do a consult or anything. I managed to get a consult scheduled to find out what the heck he's thinking. They're basically putting off the inevitable of a hyst with me being that I'm only 27, not married and no children, though I was told I wouldn't be able to have any regardless.
Has this happened to anyone? Does it sound fishy? He's a very well esteemed professional in our area, but I'm not impressed yet. Should I even consider a lap after such an invasive surgery was just performed?
Any advice is greatly appreciated, Ladies. Thank you so much. I'm about at my wit's end.

HI Kami
I would say that a consultation should be done before you schedule for any type of surgery. You need to be informed of exactly what he is planning to do and why. This is when you get to ask all the questions you have about any future plans. It might be a good idea to write down all your concerns to bring with you at your consulatation.
I did have a laproscopy done before my hysterectomy in hopes that he could remove the endo without a hysterectomy. Once he got in there, The endo was everywhere and worse than he thought, so he did what he could and then we scheduled the BIG surgery date.
If you are not impressed with your doctor, then it might be a good idea to get another opinion. Just because some doctors are well esteemed professionals , doesn't neccessarily mean they are the right doctor for you.
I hope everything goes well at your appoinment.

Thanks for your insight, Tabby. I really appreciate getting another opinion on this as it left me feeling terribly unsettled. I called my regular OBGYN today, who referred me to the specialist and gave her the heads up on this scenario...to get her opinion too. Mind you, I like her fairly well. She's been a decent doctor for me, considering what some of them have been like. She had no words for me really...which, as my primary OBGYN, that rather bothered me. I was kind of hoping she'd be either highly supportive of his desire to do this, or hesitant, but she gave me no insight, but rather said to hear him out (appointment is December 3rd for the consult) and go from there. I don't know, just seems like an awful lot of cutting in a short amount of time. That can't be good on one's body, can it? I just keep thinking of the adhesions. I had a laparotomy 2 years ago too.
Oh well...who am I to say? I'm no doc.
Tabby, thanks again for hearing my blathering. I really appreciate this sounding board, and all of you ladies.
Have a lovely evening....
