Third week feeling worse than the first

Hi! I am brand new here and feel pretty lonely. Thought I would reach out instead of just reading anonymously.
My surgery was June 5 and I am feeling worse now than that first week. Is this normal? It seems like every time I try anything more than reading and watching tv, I start spotting and cramping again. Not enough to have me call the doctor, but of course enough so that my paranoid brain thinks I am falling apart. What is going on with me?

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

I am in my 3rd week I had mine on June 3rd and I am still feeling bad so you are not alone! it is like one step forward and two steps back. I know it is one day at a time but it is hard...we just have to hang in there and know we are not alone

You are not alone in this I had mine on June 12th and still don't feel 100%! I had a UTI and thought that was causing me to feel bad. Hope we all get past this

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

Hi Samandboo--

Sorry to hear you are struggling so much! I too am in my third week of recovery (LAVH with BSO) and am doing relatively well with what I think are pretty typical ups & downs. I have had a bit of spotting & cramping in the past few days, but very low level. I know that there is a range of what is considered normal for week 3, depending on how extensive your surgery (& the incisions) were as well as any preexisting other health conditions. I also think that many surgeons don't let us know what to expect with regard to aftermath bleeding & cramping (mine said nothing).

So what I'm thinking is: Three weeks out with daily cramping & spotting with extreme fatigue would be a concern if it were me. Perhaps others with this same experience may have other feedback, but it sounds to me like there is enough grounds for concern that a call to your doctor is warranted. IMO, we shouldn't have to wait for things to feel like an emergency to call & voice a concern & ask some questions. It's ok & makes perfect sense that you would want some information & reassurance.

Best wishes for better weeks ahead!

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

I will be 4 weeks on Wednesday. I would say that as far as discomfort, my second and the early part of my third was the worst. I am spotting regularly, and cramping if I overdo at all. Following posts here, it seems it is the norm.

but, if you have any concerns at all, you should call the doctor's office. that's why they are there....for YOU!

I'm getting ready to call because I think I have a UTI, but I'm not sure...doesn't feel like the usual kind but.....I'm calling!

You will get better, it just takes time. Hang in there! Hugs.

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

I had my dvh/sling on June 5th, so on my 3Rd week too. It's not been easy, my first week was easier than now.I ended up with a uti that would not go away with the first round of antibiotic, then took another one. I still have bladder spasms, so it's hard to know the difference between uti or just spasms from the surgery. I see my doctor today...see what he says, plus urine test! This is a pretty rough ordeal here...our body is in shock from all that's been done. You are not alone, this site has been so comforting to me....we will get over this hump, it takes lots of patience, for sure! I will pray for you...when in doubt call the doctor

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

i am in my 3rd week surgery was 6/4 TAH with the removal of a 18-19cm fibroid and have a vertical incision....i still am very "crampy" no spotting though....i don't go to see the doctor till July 11th so i'm almost ready to call just to ask if its normal to be still crampy....just for piece of mind...

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

I had my TAH on June 5 and although I am not spotting I am still tired and I only do one "outing" a day. I've been sleeping in my recliner all these nights, but am going to try my bed tonight. My girl parts are very sore and sensitive. I think what you are going through sounds normal, but I would call my doc if I needed reassurance. I agree with everyone else, it's not an imposition to ask your doctor questions. There are a lot of good people with experience and compassion on these forums.

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

Believe me, I sympathize with how you feel because I expected to feel better, not worse, week 3 too. This feels like a setback, but it is part of the healing process, so please don't be discouraged.
Continue to rest as much as you need too...you are still healing. Try to eat small nourishing meals and snacks and drink as much water as you can without floating away! Walking around the house every hour or so for just five to ten minutes will really help keep things moving. If you are in pain, take your medication on time and as prescribed. Don't try to be a hero and suffer- so please take care. Your body needs to focus on healing and not fighting pain.

Hang in there - it does and WILL get better

Re: Third week feeling worse than the first

I am right there with you. Surgery 6/7 and these past couple days I've felt lousy. Made a big mistake and walked my daughter across the beach to a birthday party. I highly recommend not walking in sand! Have been cramping ever since then , 2 days ago and even had some bleeding/blood clot today. So very hard to take it easy on days you feel well but it seems necessary. My dear friend bought me a hose keeper today and took all my families laundry to fluff n fold, she says that should keep me from the temptation of picking up after hubby and kids. Feel so blessed to be surrounded by this kind of love & friendship....does make it easier to lay around too! Wishing you all easy recovery!
