Vaginal Discharge 5 weeks post hysterectomy

Hi Forum
I would just like to find out it it is normal to experience some vaginal discharge 5 weeks post op?

I did experience 3 weeks of slight post op bleeding (prior to the discharge) which my doctor was not concerned about as it was brownish in colour and not fresh red blood.

My healing seems to be going well, and although I am up and about I am taking things easy and not overdoing anything. I am also not driving yet. I have my check up with the doc on 1 July.

Please could you let me know if anyone else has experienced this and whether I can consider it a normal part of recovery.

My ovaries were left behind.

Thank you.

Hi Lisa,
What kind of discharge are you having now? How frequent is it?

Re: Vaginal Discharge 5 weeks post op

The discharge is every day, and its a clear to slight yellow-brownish in colour. Doesn't appear to be any abnormal odor.
This follows some bleeding I had post op which started a week after my op.

Re: Vaginal Discharge 5 weeks post op

Does it tend to happen more when you do certain things or it's totally random? Also you said it can be clear but you are sure it's not urine?

Re: Vaginal Discharge 5 weeks post op

Definitely not urine, and is totally random. The reason I say clear is that it doesn't appear to be a milky discharge, but does border on a hint of yellow/brown colour.
I wonder if it could possibly just be the last of the bleeding I was experiencing. Very personal indeed but it does not show on the toilet paper when I wipe after urinating, only in my underwear as we go through the day.
I do have my follow up with my doc on 1 July so will mention it to him then as well - unless it has cleared by that time.
Otherwise, all seems to be in order. I am not experiencing any pain unless I have sat in the same position a bit long. But do get a twinge here and there.
Thank you for trying to assist

Re: Vaginal Discharge 5 weeks post op

There is a lot of healing going on that's for sure. Since you have an appointment you might says well ask to be sure, I'm at around the same point as you and had an infection that antibiotics cleared up thankfully, however I'm also dealing with a fistula which can't be repaired yet so that's why I asked about the urine.
Glad overall you are healing nicely.......it's nice to hear that not everyone is going through a harder time than it already is!
Take care

Re: Vaginal Discharge 5 weeks post op

Thanks for the feedback, must say, although its quite a hectic operation, its not been too bad for me though. I was a bit scared when I started spotting the day my stitches were removed, and then it turned into a slight brownish bleed. My doc was fine with it, but did instruct me to go to casualty if it became a fresh red colour. Thankfully this didn't happen. Was definitely worse than I expected. I think one never really ones what to expect until you actually go through it.
Glad to hear you are doing well. I wish you well with the Fisula and the rest of your healing period :-)
Regards
Lisa
