Now what do I do?

well just got back from Docs office, things are going from bad to worse. I am now having a TAH, BSO. What the heck am I getting myself into? will I ever be a normal person again. I agree that I am tired of all the pain and tired of being sick all the time, but won't this operation make me worse in the end?

It depends on what your reason is for your hysterectomy. I am better off since my surgery. BUT, I was bleeding 3/4 of every month and very anemic because of it. I had severe adenomyosis with very large fibroids that made me cramp horribly all month long. Sex was painful. My bladder wouldn't hold much because it was compressed by the enlarged uterus.

I have seen women here write about regretting their surgeries. Some of them had complications either during, or as a result of their surgeries which they hadn't expected. Others, had problems for which there were optional treatments but hadn't been told about those options. There are even some who have a hysterectomy for birth control purposes or because they don't want to have periods anymore.

A hysterectomy is a life changing surgery. If your uterus is diseased and is making you sick, and you have no untried options, then a hysterectomy may be just the thing to improve your quality of life.

If, however, your uterus is healthy and your ovaries are functioning normally, then the chances are that you will not be as happy with the outcome. All surgery comes with serious risks and this one is no exception. The best hormone replacement therapy in the world cannot exactly mimic what healthy ovaries do.

My quality of life has greatly improved. For me, the hysterectomy was a good decision. All you can do is get several medical opinions, research the facts, and make the best decision for you.

I have endometriosis was diagnosed when I was 19years old, I am now 44. I think I have been down every avenue there is. With many laperoscipies and biopsies I have had enough. It just seems like it is now final. I try to talk to my BF but he doesn't get it. He has had testicular cancer and his appendix removed, There is just nothing worse than that. I was there for his appendex and I took care of him 24/7, I really wonder if he will do the same.

Believe me I had the same problems as you have and tried everything to save my uterus, ovaries, and cervix. I waited more than 2 years to go thru with my TAH/BSO and wonder now why I waited so long. I feel sooo much better than I have in years.
I hope and pray that your BF will be there for you after your surgery....most men don't understand since they don't have a uterus. I have found that telling my DH what he needs to do for me helps. Hang in there and I will be praying for you.
