Endo & more: Why "not" get a hysterectomy?

Hello....I have had menstrual problems since the day I started my cycles when I was 13....had painful cycles and terrible bleeding since day 1....after getting married, had 3 miscarriages, diagnosed with endometriosis, tipped uterus, GIFT procedure, in-vitro...numerous surgeries, etc....finally adopted....husband divorced me when child was 1; met and married my husband and still had problems; miscarriage; at 38 had laparoscopy because of pain for endometriosis....the doctor said....throw in the towel, you will never have kids; 2 mos. later pregnant...had baby at 39....endured 2 more miscarriages; at 44 had endometrial ablation because of nonstop bleeding; developed sepsis. Since then and always have had pain during sex....now in the past six months have pain and much discomfort in lower part of my abdominal area and back...had ultrasound and just had endometrial biopsy yesterday because uterus thickening 5mm...no bleeding, waiting on biopsy results...but discussed hysterectomy because of all the problems I have endured....my question is "why not have a hysterectomy to feel better"....I have basically been in menopause since the ablation...no bleeding, have hot flashes, etc.....waiting for biopsy results, even if it's not cancer, I want it all out....so after all this, why not have it all out is my question! Thank you in advance for any input....BTW, my age is 53....

Re: Endo & more: Why "not" get a hysterectomy?

I'm 32 and had my hysterectomy 7 weeks ago due to endometriosis, fibroids and adenomyosis. I kept my ovaries because the doctor said they looked good. I couldn't be happier with my decision. It's only been 7 weeks but i feel like a new woman. No pain, no bleeding and no ridiculous bloating/abdominal discomfort. It was definitely the right decision for me. Talk to your doctor. ...its always good to know what your options are! Good luck!

Jennyrose....thank you so much for your response....so glad you are doing well...that's what everyone keeps telling me....how great they feel and what a relief....can't wait for the relief....my doctor said my ovaries are very small and are probably not doing anything so it was up to me....I say all out....my cousin only had one ovary taken out and a year or so later the one left was wrapped in adhesions and she had to go in for another surgery.....I know I am going to have it all out it's just a matter of getting the biopsy results back....hopefully soon...if it is cancer, I am going to go to a specialist, if not, I am scheduling the hysterectomy....I have just read some posts where people still have problems, gain weight, bladder problems, etc. etc. and just wanted more opinions....thanks again....glad you are doing well!
