New Here, TAH soon

Hi, I am new to HysterSisters site and I love reading all the interesting stories that you all have about post-op and pre-op hysterectomy. This site has really helped me with a knowledge of what to kind of expect. I am scheduled for 7/24/08. I am nervous as this is my first surgery but I feel pretty confident that everything will go fine.

Hi eanes77 and

We’re happy you joined the Hystersisters community! As you have discovered, there is a ton of solid information on the site, and the members have unlimited cyber-hugs to dispense and experiences to share with you at every stage of your journey to good health!

If you haven’t already done so, please do yourself a favor and register to receive Hysterectomy Checkpoints. It’s one of the best features of the site, in my opinion -- designed to accompany you through the entire hysterectomy experience from start to finish, and beyond!

You can take the opportunity to prepare yourself for what’s ahead by reading the Pre-Op Articles. Since you have never had surgery before, I think you might find the following particularly helpful:

What to Expect at the Hospital

Through the years, hundreds of women have shared their personal suggestions in Hints for Your Hysterectomy that you may also want to peruse.

I am sending positive thoughts your way for a successful surgery and uneventful recovery!

Welcome!! I'm so glad you found this site, you're never alone and there's nothing you can't ask or say, your Systers love and support you through whatever! I'll briefly tell you my story. I've already had my children and I've already finished menopause, so I've really wanted a hysterectomy for a long time, just to make sure that my "parts" down there weren't sneaking around fixing to make me sick. No one would do it because there is nothing wrong with me and I am healthy. Well, I'm 5 weeks post-op. I had a little bleeding so I had a pelvic exam, a vaginal ultrasound and a D&C. Everything turned out normal and healthy (the blood was caused by too much sex). Anyway, I told my Dr. I really wanted to get rid of everything so I would never have to worry about any of these organs turning on me. He agreed. Hurrahhhhh!! It was the kindest gift of Freedom I could receive. I have no fears because there's no one down there to hurt me, I never have to give it a second thought. 7 hours after surgery I was walking in the halls - feeling fine; went home next morning, feeling fine; now here I am 5 weeks later and if I didn't know it was true I wouldn't even believe I had undergone anything. I was never uncomfortable, painful, and went about my life like I always have - no side affects. It was sort of like I just had gone to the dentist or something. That's my experience, though. Many of our Systers have had to endure such pain and sorrow, it's heart breaking. But just know, these horrible things don't happen to all of us. bonniebolander60
