How long should I have someone home

OK - love this site -need to know - scheduled for 1 scope site (LESS) SCH on Tuesday . It's a 23 hr stay . How many days should hubby stay home with me? Can he go back to work the night of post op day 2 ? He works 2 miles from home . Does this seem completely unrealistic? Other than that very excited to lose my uterus ! Will post afterwords in the post op forum.

Re: How long should I have someone home

I had a full laparotomy. My husband stayed home with me a total of 3 days. His main concern was me going up and down the stairs while on pain meds. I would bet if you saved the tricky stuff like showering (so you don't get dizzy and fall with no one around) and any other "heavy" manuevering until he was home, 2 days would probably do well. I carried my cell phone around in my robe as I was home alone. Have some planned times for him to call and check on you and you should do fine! Good luck girlfriend!!!

Re: How long should I have someone home

I had a TAH, and did not get home from the hospital for three days. Then DH was home with me another three, and then went back to work. I did okay by myself during the day. Just took things slow, had simple breakfast (oatmeal) and frozen lunch. Dinners and cleaning were done by DH when he got home from work.

Good luck.

Re: How long should I have someone home

My mom was here for 4 weeks, but I also have 4 kids! I wish she were still here. If it's just you, make sure you are comfy on the couch, have your meds, drink, and snacks by you, especially those first few days. You'll start to feel better after a week or so, but don't overdo it. Pain meds wear off, over activity, and healing may cause you to feel a different pain a few weeks after surgery. Take it easy! There is a weekly step by step guide on the website that you should look at. Good luck!

Re: How long should I have someone home

You should be fine. I had my surgery Tues morning. Went home Weds. night. DH went to work on Thurs. I could get up and go to the bathroom and get my own food. We still have 2 kids at home but they are teens and can make their own sandwiches etc.

Yes, the house is trashed but other than that things are ok. Just make sure you have what you need at easy reaching level (no low or high stuff since bending and stretching can be pretty uncomfortable the first week or so). You will want to get up and walk a bit right from the beginning, it really helps with gas so it's not bad to stroll in the kitchen and zap something in the microwave.

If you have little kids you will want to have help during the day. How long depends on how young the kids are and how good you are feeling.

Re: How long should I have someone home

You will be fine.

My hubby didn't stay home with me at all. I told him to go to work. He picked me up from the hospital on a Wed morning, took me home and went right back to work. I stayed on the couch until he got home. I was able to go to the bathroom, take a shower, get myself something to drink by myself. Of course, it didn't feel good but it won't feel much better even if you have help.
