Hysterectomy yesterday: Question about pain meds pump at incision

I had my surgery yesterday morning and during surgery they inserted a pain pump of sorts directly into my incision. I have a tube coming out attached to a little ball in a small purse like bag. It seems to be working well as I don't have a lot if pain from the site.

Has anyone had this? My question is how much does the pain go up when they remove it? I was told it was just for the first couple of days to get you over the hump. Should I expect the pain to shoot up when they take it out or stay about the same?

Thanks!

Re: Hysterectomy yesterday: Question about pain meds pump at incision

Well, I didn't have a pain pump of any kind, just Tylenol and toradol in the iv, but I had it out for 8 hours before I realized I hadn't taken anything for the pain, and that was because they told me I had to try oral pain meds before I could go home, I wanted to go home and so I thought I had to take them. They did let me go home without them. I honestly really didn't have pain at all, even after the iv came out, I was very lucky, hope that happens to you!

Re: Hysterectomy yesterday: Question about pain meds pump at incision

I had that, it was wonderful! I had my hysterectomy on Friday, the pump ran out on Sunday at about 9 p.m. pain did go up for a day or two! I am so happy I had it can't imagine what the incision pain was like for the first two days. Don't worry it was really just a little more pain for a day or so. I went home with mine and they took it and my staples out that Monday. That relieved a lot of pressure! Good luck in your recovery
