abscess...can it come back 8 weeks later?

Hello sisters!
I underwent a complete laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy on January 10. Released on the 13th, started severe (pain unlike anything I had ever experienced before) on the 16th, started vomiting on 20th, low grade fever started in the afternoons only, same day, all the while having loose bowel movements. Went for bloodwork on the 21st (thought I had the flu) and was told to get my butt into emerg on the 23rd as a result of the bloodwork....high white count, low hemoglobin, all liver enzymes sky high. Was readmitted on the 23rd due to a 4 inch abscess (infected hematoma). Had ultrasound and CT scan, 72 hours of IV antibiotics, not quite septic yet (thank god!), and released again on the 27th (my youngest son's 11th birthday).
I am 39 years old, now over 9 weeks post surgery and the cramps, as of the last 3 days, are coming back! Not quite as severe as before, but they hurt! I was feeling quite well before that, had been given the okay to slowly start doing my normal stuff, so I have been on a few longer walks, out on day trips with my husband and sons, etc...
My surgery was more complicated than expected...uterus and cervix adhered to bladder, cystic ovaries, adenomyosis, endometriosis and inflammation, but everything is gone now. Could an abscess reform? I went for another CT 10 days ago and have heard nothing (doctor is on vacation), but last I heard the hematoma was down to 1 inch and shrinking. I really don't want to go down that nasty road again. No fever, no vomiting, no diarrhea at this point in time....
Thanks for any advice you may offer!
Jose

Well I think it is a good sign at least that your Dr hasn't called. I know he is on vacation, but when I had my first post op complication I got a call within an hour of my CT. It seems your Dr would / should have a plan to review results in his abscense. It is great to hear you did get another CT though as yes they can return. This way you can catch it early if it has.

Having said that, I had 2 abscesses, one rupture 13 weeks post op. I had my first infection at 3 weeks post op. I thought I was in the all clear, back at work, just started exercising again. I had a low grade fever at night in the 10 days before the rupture, but I thought it was my sinuses. I did not have unbeleivable pain until the rupture and then I was septic. I had to undergo another surgery at that point. In retrospect, I did have other signs but they were what I thought just normal post op stuff.

I'm glad your checking it out, but if your pain gets worse or you develop a fever it would be a good idea to go to the ER and not wait for your DR.

Hugs,
