Post Op exam uncomfortable
Hi everyone,
I went for my post op exam at 3 months and I wasn't expecting it to be so uncomfortable. For background information I had it done vaginally with an anterior repair and episiotomy type stitching on the outside. He took my ovaries.
I didn't say too much to the doctor because although he is really good he isn't too much into sympathy if the exams hurt. I guess he feels that it is part of the process.
Anyway, the only way I can describe it is a ripping and tearing sensation and I did bleed a little afterwords.
My question is this. I started on vagifem...will this help with my next exam? Also, my sister had a laproscopic assited hysterectomy and she said her exam didn't hurt at all.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Post Op exam uncomfortable
I'm only five weeks post-op and have had two internal exams. Neither one hurt at all or was even uncomfortable. It might be a good idea to mention your discomfort and bleeding to your doctor--not for sympathy but because they might indicate that something hasn't finished healing or something. I hope your next exam goes better.

Post Op exam uncomfortable
My 4 week post op was a lot more painful than I thought it was going to be...I bled/spotted very heavily for 3 days. I had a total hysterectomy, both ovaries and a posterior reconstruction (done vaginally) I think the stitching from the reconstruction that starts inside and comes all the way out was the culprit for me! It was last Friday and by Monday afternoon I was a happy camper. I hope that the next one is better!

post op check pain
i had my post op check at 7 weeks and wanted to cry from the pain. Last week I had another exam both vaginally and rectal and again thought I was going to go through the roof with pain. While many out there don't have any, I feel angry that I have the pain. I too have doctors that aren't very sympathetic and have told me to just put up with it. While I don't agree, I don't know what I should do.

Post Op exam uncomfortable
I am so sorry, that sucks!
My Doc prescribed a numbing gel for me to use because my stitches hurt when I started sitting...I'd be tempted to ask them to use it for the exam. I don't know if they would but maybe it'd be worth the try?

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the numbing gel. I thought I would have to have an injection to numb the area.
You have been most helpful!

I'm sooo not a Doc so they might have different ideas! I would call them ahead of time and tell them that you are not willing to go through what you had to last time! The gel really did do wonders for sitting and I certainly wished I had asked my surgeon to use it really quick before she did my post op! Those exterior stitches have been a pain for me.
Good luck!
