9 Days Post daVinci hysterectomy - Throbbing on Right Side

I noticed on an older forum that others experienced a similar throbbing/pain on the right side. Because it was an older thread I wasn't able to ask a question so here goes on a newer one.

Some on the older thread used a heating pad -- does anyone else have ideas? Would the narcotics the dr gave me (Diacon??) help or did anyone try Advil? How long did the pain last?

Night before last I woke up to back spasms. I slept with the heating pad last night and that was better this morning but it's almost like that pain transferred "around the bend" to my front right abdomen area.

I seem to remember the doctor saying I would have more pain on my right side but it seems like it's something different every day (sigh) and I'm never quite sure what to take for it.

I'd heard that the Davinci method cut down on a lot of post-op pain and had a quicker recovery. I don't doubt it but I have yet to have a "normal" day. Maybe I'm expecting too much, especially for a 53 y/o woman.

Have a great weekend!!

Re: 9 Days Post daVinci hysterectomy - Throbbing on Right Side

I didn't have the Divinci, so my experience will be different slightly.
I will say, 9 days is still early in the recovery. Yes it does cut down on recovery pain, but it was still MAJOR surgery, with loads going on inside.

It takes time, and while you are going through it it seems like FOREVER, but once you are on the other side it will seem like it was nothing!

Thanks for the reminder Shadysus! It was good for both my husband and I to read that we're still early on in the process. You're right...it seems like a "forever" process but I'm thankful to be on this side of the surgery.

I appreciate the encouragement more than you know! Thank you.

Re: 9 Days Post daVinci hysterectomy - Throbbing on Right Side

Hi Daisydora, sorry to hear of your pain. One thing I've picked up on this forum (I'm new) is that regardless of the technique (Da Vinci, open, etc.) the operation was major and lots went on inside. I think the sharp pains I had early on were the gas pains/bubbles you hear a lot about. If you haven't already, try to spend some time on this site looking for ways to get rid of the gas. I think some of that has to be absorbed in the body (at least with the Da Vinci method) but regardless, I think there are some basic things like putting a heating pad where the pains are (BIG help for me) and do all things possible to avoid constipation.

Praying you feel better soon.

Re: 9 Days Post daVinci hysterectomy - Throbbing on Right Side

tealover, You are most welcome!
For me the LONGEST time was the first 4 weeks. I kept wanting to do things, and got bored so easily. I was lucky enough to have a husband that STILL keeps a close eye on what I do so didn't over do it and set myself back.

After my 6 week check up though ... Time has flown and while I still have the odd day where I get tired easily, or have small twinges, It almost seems like a life time ago!

You'll get there! Just hang tight and remember, the slower/easier you take it now the better the healing!

Re: 9 Days Post daVinci hysterectomy - Throbbing on Right Side

Shadysus, thanks again! I don't think I've ever appreciated encouragement as much as I do now.

Relying on the hubby to set up the tree and decorate is proving to be more of a challenge than first expected. Being reminded there is a light at the end of this proverbial tunnel is quite the blessing.

Have a great week!
