15 months post op...Ovaries still hurt

I will try to not make this too long winded...I had my LSH 3/13/09..age51....kept ovaries...was not in menopause yet ! By Sept 09 i have every menopause symptom on the list...get tested and yes blood test says post menopause. So i start estrogen and begin to feel better immediately. Right now i am on vivelle .1.

Since 10 weeks post op i have been getting cyclical pain, mid cycle and then 14 days later, never missed a month..ovaries and cervix hurt...and not just a little. Lately, past couple months the pain has been more constant. (I keep a journal) even if i am not having pain my lower pelvic region feels crampy and tight. Hurts with my laptop on it or even my 11 lb dog. I go mabe 10 days feeling great then BAM its back. Went back to my gyn a month ago, she did a pelvic and an in office US. Said everything felt fine and on the US couldn't even find my ovaries.
She said next step was the OR to look with a laparascope. Sounds like adhesions to her. She said CT scan or higher tech US would not show adhesions. She is not one to order alot of expensive tests.. if i pushed the issue i think she would let me have either.

I have asked a few women in my agegroup who have had hystos and kept ovaries if they experience this...they all said they have felt nothing from their ovaries since surgery. So now i am reaching out to larger pool of women who have had hystos and Kept ovaries... Do you experience this ???? Do you ever feel anything from your ovaries 15 months out and menopausal ???? and i don't mean PMS...i mean ovarian pain and cramping.

I really don't want to go back to the OR...but yes i'm sick of this and don't know how many more years this can go on !

Thank you for responding

Re: 15 months post op...Ovaries still hurt

NJ2CA,
It would sound like adhesions since the ultrasound couldn't locate your ovaries and a cyst would make them pretty apparent if that was the cause of your pain. The other possibility is a ruptured cyst, in which case you'd have a sudden sharp stabbing pain to either side of the lower pelvis and it would gradually go away(from personal experience). I'm 32 and had a complete LAVH leaving the ovaries only.

I had issues with adhesions that were originally dealt with at the hysterectomy (I had endometriosis and an appendectomy when I was 6 years old, both of which contributed to the adhesions) but I remember the pain they always caused with my bowels and bladder--any movement of which caused severe pain. The problem with adhesions is that if that is your problem, removing them could lead to more problems later on because those of us that tend to form them will eventually have them grow back and the problem compounds itself. I know some doctors will put in a surgical mesh to try to prevent them from forming at the time of hysterectomy (mine did so for me and showed me the pics to prove it) but there's no guarantee they won't form. You'll have to do some research on the subject and bring it to your doc's attention or see if there's a specialist in your area that has experience dealing with adhesion removal/treatment.

I hope this helps a bit. Just know that you aren't alone.
