More pain on side where ovary was removed?

I had laproscopic hysterectomy on 11/5. Overall I feel pretty good, only taking pain medication pretty much at night to sleep; however, I have noticed (when I over do it) that I have more pain on my left side. This was the side they took my ovary and Fallopian tube. Anyone else running into this?

Re: More pain on side where ovary was removed?

I have more pain on my left side too but I had both ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. I thought I may have pulled something a little when I was trying to sit up and twisted. If that's where you had more surgery done it would make sense that it would hurt more on that side. There's a lot of little stitches there that need to heal.

Re: More pain on side where ovary was removed?

It makes sense that the side the ovary was taken from would hurt more. There are ligaments that held the ovary in position that would have been cut. And yep, there are loads and loads of stitches that need to heal. A lot more needs to heal on the inside than on the outside, so take it easy and give your body time to do what it needs to do. Here's hoping for a smooth and uneventful recovery for you!

Re: More pain on side where ovary was removed?

Yes! I have never felt any pain on the right side. Only on the left side, and at first, at the top of the belly button, where they cleared tried to sew me up. My doc said that the left side is where they had the most work. I kept my ovaries, though. I still think it's crazy that I don't feel any pain on the right side. I wonder if that's normal or if I just have a very talented surgeon. lol

Re: More pain on side where ovary was removed?

I had both my ovaries removed and since about day 4 post surgery have not had any pain to speak of at all. Some ladies with the same surgery have pain for several weeks. It seems it's a very personal thing and it affects everyone differently. There are probably more factors that affect how much pain there is than I can possibly imagine, but I reckon I must have had a pretty good surgeon

Re: More pain on side where ovary was removed?

Thanks for you input ladies. It made sense to me that the left side would have more pain due to them only taking my left ovary and Fallopian tube. It just seemed a little strange that I had equal pain on both sides for the first week or so, and in the second week I've had no pain on my right side and have started to have pain on my left side. I will keep reminding myself to take it easy.
