I was told by my doctor to take the tapes off my incisions today if they didn't come off on their own. That hurt! One of the incisions bled a little bit and then I got nauseous. I wasn't sure if I was going to pass out or throw up. I had to go lay down on my bed for a few minutes. They are still a little sore.

Did he/she not tell you to soak them first??? My doc told me to leave them on at my first check, and that she would take them off at my 3 wk check. I was in the shower and when I (gently) rubbed the body poof over it, most of them came off. It scared me to death. I don't think dh was too happy when he heard the scream of terror. I went ahead and pulled what was hanging there, he checked the incision and said everything looked sealed just fine.
Call and ask if you can put some neosporin on it. That may make it feel a little better.
Hugs, Luck, and Prayers,
Char

I took them off right after I got out of the shower. I figured it would be easier if they were wet! It still hurt! LOL! They seem to be ok right now. They don't look infected or anything. I will keep an eye on them though.

Took me almost three weeks to get that stuff off. I think I read rubbing vaseline on an letting it be there a bit will help. It was moot by the time I read that, but man, that is some adhesive they have on those bandages.

Yeah! What is it with those adhesives? Every place I had some of the hospital tape, I developed a red rash that is now peeling. I know already that I have very sensitive skin, but good grief. They put this big tape thing over the iv and teh whole area is a different color than the rest of my arm now. I'm hoping that goes away before short sleeve weather!

Oh I know! That stuff is hard to get off! The doc said that the tapes would come off on their own and if they didn't by today to take them off. They were no where near wanting to come of on their own! I usually get the red itchy spots from the bandaids they use when ever I have my blood drawn. The whole top of my hand is a nice shade of green right now from the bruise the IV caused.

i have one for you...the doc told me I could take off the bandage and take a shower the next morning after my tah/bso. When i took off the bandage 3 of the staples fell out...i figured since my guts didn't fall out I was O.K. I finished my shower and then called the nurse. She put steri stips on the open area and assured me it would be fine. At 5 days the staples were removed and steri-stips put on. Then at the 2 week appt. he told me to remove the steri stips after my next shower. They still smarted when removed esp. in parts where the hair had started to grow back.
I think the docs don't want to cause us more pain and so they don't want to do the dirty work of removing the stips. At least that part is over!!

When my DD had surgery I complained about the STICKY STUFF on her baby skin - they gave me these little packages that look like alcohol swabs but are actually adhesive removes - works like a charm but smells terrible! They are called "REMOVE*" Universal Adhesive Remover Wipe! They are manufactured by smith & nephew! Keep in mind gals that I live in Canada so you gals probably have a better product than we do LOL! We are always second to get what you guys have because of our food and drug adminstration! Oh well, teaches us to be patient, I guess! Waiting for the drug "Cymbalta" to come to Cananda - supposed to help with migraines!
