No Bowel Prep??

Hello to all my Hyster sisters

I have been reading most of the posts and well, I can't seem to find anything on no bowel prep at home?

My hasn't mentioned anything about doing one, and is it maybe something that will be done at the castle when I get there?

I am going in this Friday May 9, a scope will be done first to see if there isn't a lot of scar tissue so a LAVH/BSO can be done. If not then it will be performed the other way.

I have severe anemia, and too many tumors to leave anything in.....

Please let me know, what you know....so, then I will know.

Thanks a whole bunch...Lori

Hi Lori,

Some doctors don't require a bowel prep at all, while some do. It just depends on your doctor's preferences and the extent of the work being done.

My doctor also didn't require me to do a bowel prep, boy was I ever glad!!!!

You may want to call your doctor and ask, just for your own peace of mind. But otherwise, enjoy not having to do it!

s,

Lisa

Me, too

My doctor's not requiring a bowel prep for my surgery, and boy am I glad! I'd been dreading it. I asked about it at my pre-op visit with him and he said he didn't think it was necessary because I'd not had previous abdominal surgeries.

I'm not sure what the criteria are for needing it or not. I'm sure it has to do with what you're having done. But I'd think they would have told you if you needed to do it. You might call to make sure.

No Bowel Prep??

Hi

I did have to do a bowel prep, but it wasn't bad. Liquid diet two days before surgery then I took Magnesium Citrate in the afternoon on the day before surgery. I don't know why I had bowel prep, but I think it had something to do with all the scar dissue I had from all my other surgeries. Anyhoo, it wasn't bad at all

I hope you don't have to do one, but if you do (check with your doctor) the doc will give you written directions. Mine wasn't bad really!!!!

I, too, was anemic and had lots of tumors, but I made it through and am now 3 weeks post-op and doing quite well (well I stilll need to slow down a bit more

Please feel free to contaact me when I'm online if you feel like it.

No Bowel Prep??

I just had to do a fleet enema the morning of my surgery. No big deal. I did try to eat a light, high fiber diet with lots of water the couple of days before my surgery.

Bobo

...I think it has a lot to do with which procedure you're having. I had to do the bowel prep (drinking that G0-LYTELY the night before, PLUS TWO Fleet enemas the morning OF!) but I was having a rectocele repaired and my bowels were involved, so I guess that made sense...(Either that or my GYN was a sadist).
YOU ARE SO LUCKY to not have to do it.

Good luck with the surgery. Keep us posted!
