bleeding

I'm looking at a hysterectomy in September -- can't have it earlier because I can't be away from work until then -- and my main problem is constant bleeding. I've bled 48 out of the last 51 days. I'm also on meds daily for bipolar disorder. Lately the meds don't seem to be working as well. Should I talk to my psychiatrist about the bleeding? Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for the help.

I think you need to call your DR immediately. Bleeding for that long can be a sign of a serious problem.

Will keep you in my thoughts & prayers good luck!

bleeding

I bled for 30 days straight a couple of months before my hyst - some days bad enough I should have gone straight to an ER, I now know. Friends were starting to comment that I looked pale, and I felt awful - dizzy, tired... Do call your Gyn/PCP about it, and be specific about how much there is. In my case it was one of my fibroids, with a little (2mm?) spot that was hemorrhaging (sp?). Not a particularly dire cause, but the bleeding alone can be a problem, even if the cause is fairly harmless. Depending on how much blood you're losing it could be just a pain in the neck, or a health emergency. If it's bad, work just might need to figure out how to get along without you sooner than expected.

Talk to your doc in any case.

I agree with Linda and Kelly: talk to your doctor.

I had my hyst, last December, for fibroids and one of the main symptoms was very heavy, frequent and irregular bleeding. Like Linda, many a times I should have gone to the ER, but didn't. Eventually, the constant bleeding lead to my being borderline anemic. During the surgery, I crossed that line. I barely escaped a transfusion and was on iron supplements for one month post-op.

Wishing you the best of luck. Please keep us posted.

Call your psychiatrist and tell her about the bleeding. My daughter is on meds for bipolar disorder, and the levels are affected by weight and hydration. You know that too low or too high a level and the meds won't work. Losing body fluid by excessive sun and sweating, or bleeding, could have changed your med levels. Call your psychiatrist and tell her about your condition and how you're feeling and see what she wants to do.

Best of luck!
