4 months post total (vaginal) hysterectomy and rectocele repair
I am 4 months post vaginal hysterectomy with rectocele repair. Hysterectomy necessary due to fibroids. I have experienced nausea, trembling, feeling of fainting, and disoriented after a bowel movement. I thought it was anxiety but now am not so sure. I have healed great and am very active. These "episodes" are throwing me a curve ball! The Dr thinks I need to take Prozac for anxiety....not so sure about this...any thoughts?

Hormonal imbalance? Or maybe have your thyroid checked? Change in hormones can throw off your thyroid.

Re: 4months post partial hysterectomy and rectocele repair
Hey I went for blood work and they have checked my hormone levels and thyroid. She said all the test came back normal. They are saying it could be anxiety and the Prozac will help. I am getting so discouraged. I am normally a happy go lucky person but this is taking its toll

Re: 4months post partial hysterectomy and rectocele repair
Traciew,
Are you taking anything to keep your bowel movements soft and regular? I stayed on stool softeners and took miralax until I felt completely healed and knew my stitches were all gone from the surgery. Rectocele repair is painful and BM's can be a bit scary when you have to struggle not to push to go.

thanks so much for the reply, I have stayed on miralax, no problems with going just seems to trigger the nausea and trembling and anxious feeling. I don't have this feeling every day it is just random. I felt sick all day yesterday but have been fine today. thanks again

Re: 4months post partial hysterectomy and rectocele repair
As I just said on another post, I say a lot "get your thyroid checked". I apologize if it seems I am just throwing that out, but because of my situation (I have Graves Disease which is hyperthyroidism) and the affects it has had on my body, thyroid is something that is constantly on my mind. All to say, did you get a copy of the lab results? Many drs are not good at interpreting thyroid panels and "normal" to them doesn't always mean you are actually "normal". After my hysterectomy, my endocrinologist said I had to wait 8 to 10 weeks after starting estradiol to get my levels checked. I waited and by the time I could have the test, I was miserable and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was hypothyroid. I saw dr and he said "levels are normal" which I took issue with. My TSH was 4.05 which is within the "normal" ranges, but I was miserable. He did change my Synthroid dose slightly and said to wait 8 to 10 more weeks. I felt better fairly quickly (proving I was in fact hypothyroid as I said), but I am still not 100% and think it can be tweaked further but I have to wait at least another 3 or so weeks... So, sorry to be a broken record, but its worth asking for a copy of the lab results and research them to see if they really are normal and/or research thyroid symptoms (though these are so often similar to hormone changes) and if you feel you are not getting the right answers from this dr, find another one such as an endocrinologist that treats thyroid & hormone issues (though they can be tough to find). One last thing - remember that anxiety is often a symptom of something else, but they can treat the anxiety while you are trying to fix the underlying health issue. If you have to take anti-anxiety med temporarily, you may have to do that, but I would certainly seek other medical opinion in addition to the one you have been given. Good luck!!

Re: 4months post partial hysterectomy and rectocele repair
I am so thankful for your explanation. I see a endocrinologist once a year due to a small growth on my thyroid. Maybe my hysterectomy has triggered issues with my thyroid. I haven't had to take thyroid meds but was told I had slightly elevated numbers. Thanks again.. I will request my lab results and look into them!

You definitely need to call the endocrinologist then! Best of luck!
