Upcoming hysterectomy 12/11: anyone with Anemia that need surgery

Hi, just checking to see if other women on this forum have needed to have a hysterectomy due to very bad anaemia, my iron levels are under 5 and blood count low too due to heavy bleeding every month, I have had iron injections and now having iron transfusions, Dr's say hysterectomy so booked in and its 3 weeks away..

I also have adenomiosis (sorry for spelling). Which is very painful.

Just wanted to get feedback on anyone else who has had a hysterectomy due to these things and what your recovery and life is like after your hysterectomy ?

Thanks - appreciate your time

Re: anyone with Anemia that need hysterectomy

I chose to have my hysterectomy because of the heavy bleeding and anemia. I had one incidence of passing out on my way back from a bathroom trip and a few visits to the ER. In addition my uterus was enlarged and fibroid filled( adenomyosis was confirmed in pathology). I needed to be back in control of my life. My surgery went well and my recovery was uneventful. My hysterectomy brought me back to wellness. My iron levels are back to normal range. My daily walking goal is 3 miles and along with other exercises and healthy eating I have lost 15 lbs. Overall I am feeling great and I have no regrets. Good luck on your journey.

Re: anyone with Anemia that need hysterectomy

Although complex hyperplasia was my original diagnosis, I am actually going to have the surgery because of anemia. I have nearly passed out twice in public places in the last 3 months, ending up in the ER once. I decided it is just too dangerous- what if it happened while I was driving?

Re: anyone with Anemia that need hysterectomy

Yes. The reason I was referred to the OBGYN was because no matter what I did my iron levels remained extremely low. From when I first got my period I was a heavy bleeder requiring super everything to get by day to day. I have tried everything from the pill to the implanon implant to control them and still couldn't improve my iron levels. So was sent off for scans and fibroids and lesions were discovered, so to that my uterus flopped forward over its self. So I am hoping, I have trouble believing until I see it, that this hysterectomy in 2 weeks gives me a life I have never known of increased energy with better iron levels and also a life less painful.
I hope your surgery goes well.

Re: anyone with Anemia that need hysterectomy

Fibroids, causing low iron for me.

Fantastic to be off the iron tablets. After 7 weeks, I'm feeling a bit tired having returned to work full time. But I feel good. And I'm focusing on rebuilding my general fitness - no more excuses. It's a good place to be.

Re: anyone with Anemia that need hysterectomy

Yes, I'm having a hysterectomy because of large fibroids and anemia. I'm taking iron supplements right now and also had to go to the er for a blood transfusion.

Re: anyone with Anemia that need hysterectomy

I too have had heavy periods since I was 9. I am now 35. I had my hysterectomy 2.5 weeks ago. I feel fantastic. No more migraines, no cramps, no swollen belly from uterus. I am doing more now than before hyster.
I was on iron pills 180mg before surgery to make it to surgery. I was a train wreck of nerves before surgery. All went well. I am glad to be on the other side shoulda done this 2+ years ago.

Re: anyone with Anemia that need hysterectomy

I have struggled with anemia since I was very young. Even before periods started. After that it was a constant battle rather than something to keep check on. It was not my only factor but definitely in pro hysterectomy column when weighing the pros/cons.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy 12/11: anyone with Anemia that need surgery

I was anemic prior to surgery. I was really tired for the first 3 months post op until my iron levels came back up.
I probably didn't help by going back to work at 4 weeks....
